Description: Nationals center fielder Denard Span is having a tough start to the 2014 postseason.
Insight: Span is hitless in 11 at-bats in the first two games of the NLDS, both losses for Washington. Span is not the only player struggling in the Nationals' lineup, but he ignited the offense all season long. The Nationals have scored just three runs in 27 innings against the Giants. Game 3 is Monday.

Insight: It looks like Washington will play it safe, as Span will sit out Wednesday, but should be back in the lineup on Thursday.

Insight: He took a hit away from Matt den Dekker, and stayed in the game until Michael Taylor pinch-hit for him in the bottom of the inning.

Insight: Span has cooled off since his .368 July and .328 in August, so he's no longer a must start. In this unfavorable matchup he should be avoided.

Insight: Span tripled to lead off the third but somehow did not score. He then singled in the fourth to score Wilson Ramos. Span has cooled off since his .346 July and August, but he is a guy that one still has to plug into fantasy lineups almost daily.

Insight: Span was one of the hottest hitters in the league during July and August and while he's still batting .300 in Spectember, the Nationals can now afford to give him a few days off to get ready for the playoff drive.

Insight: Combined with the fact that he is hitting .347 during the second half of the season, along with his .394 career BA (13-33) against Braves starter Ervin Santana, Span has the potential to get off to a strong start this week. While he won't give you much power, Span has really picked it up on the base path after the All-Star break, as he has stolen 16 bases in the last 54 games (15 SB through the first 84 games). Make sure Span is locked in and ready to go.

Insight: Span continued his hot second half with two more hits. The center fielders has 23 multi-hit games since the All-Star Break. He hit .368 in July, .328 in August and is 8-for-20 so far in September.

Insight: Span has, however, been on fire recently. He bounced back from his 0-for-4 on Wednesday, going 2-for-3 on Thursday and scoring the lone run of the game as Washington walked off with a victory for the fifth time in six days. Despite the career troubles Span has against Hudson, it might be tough to sit him. Since June 17, he has gone 78-for-231 (.338) including 65-for-178 (.365) since July 1 and 52-for-134 (.388) since the All-Star break to raise his average to .302.
