Description: Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig is not in the starting lineup Saturday, according to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.
Insight: Puig is getting a rest. The 23-year-old is still dealing with a left thumb injury and has hit .235 with one home run and five RBI this season.

4/17/2014 2:32:00 PM
Description: Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig will bat in the No. 3 hole on Thursday for the first time in his career.
Insight: Fantasy owners would like the 23-year-old to play well in this RBI spot as it would add more value. He's getting the opportunity because Hanley Ramirez is not in the lineup nor is Carl Crawford or Andre Ethier.

4/11/2014 6:02:00 PM
Description: Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig (thumb) will return to the lineup Friday night against the Diamondbacks, according to Ken Gurnick of mlb.com.
Insight: The 23-year-old suffered a sprained thumb while sliding head-first into first base Saturday and didn't start the last three games, but he pinch hiht Wednesday.

4/9/2014 9:19:00 PM
Description: Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig (sprained left thumb) will not start Wednesday, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.
Insight: The 23-year-old suffered the thumb injury while sliding head-first into first base Saturday. The Dodgers have four solid outfielders (Puig, Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier, Carl Crawford) and can easily absorb this injury and give Puig all the rest he needs.

4/8/2014 6:24:00 PM
Description: Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig (strained left thumb) is out of the lineup again Tuesday.
Insight: The 23-year-old suffered the injury while sliding head-first into first base Saturday. The Dodgers have four solid outfielders (Puig, Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier, Carl Crawford) and can easily absorb this injury and give Puig all the rest he needs.

4/7/2014 9:29:00 AM
Description: Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig's MRI revealed a strained left thumb ligament.
Insight: The 23-year-old suffered the injury while sliding head-first into first base Saturday. He should avoid a trip to the disabled list and could even play Tuesday, though the smart money says he takes a few more days off. The Dodgers have four solid outfielders (Puig, Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier, Carl Crawford) and can easily absorb this injury and give Puig all the rest he needs.

4/6/2014 4:15:00 PM
Description: Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig will not play Sunday due to a left thumb injury, according to Steve Dilbeck of the Los Angeles Times. Andre Ethier (.304, one HR, six RBI) will get the start in right field against the Giants.
Insight: Puig's X-rays came back negative, though he'll also have an MRI. The 23-year-old has hit .250 with one homer and four RBI this season and was benched Friday for showing up late to the ballpark. He suffered the thumb injury while sliding head-first into first base Saturday and because it's Puig he's likely to draw some criticism for the decision.

4/4/2014 3:32:00 PM
Description: Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig showed up late to batting practice and has been benched for Friday's game against San Francisco.
Insight: Matt Kemp will get the start in his place. We expect this to be a one-game benching, but Puig's fantasy owners can't be happy.

4/1/2014 10:18:00 PM
Description: Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puighit his first homer of the season Tuesday at San Diego.
Insight: Puig slugged a two-run shot off Ian Kennedy in the first inning and finished 2-for-4 with zero Ks after fanning five times in the first three games. He's 5-for-17 (.294) with two extra-base hits so far.

3/25/2014 5:09:00 PM
Description: Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig's MRI revealed no structural damage in his back, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.
Insight: Puig has some inflammation and is day-to-day. He's expected to be ready for Sunday's game after going 3-for-10 with two RBI and four Ks in Los Angeles season-opening series against the Diamondbacks in Australia, though he'll have to avoid a setback between now and then.

3/23/2014 10:23:00 AM
Description: Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig went 3-for-5 with two RBI Saturday after going 0-for-5 with three Ks in the opener and hitting .122 in the spring, but he left in the ninth inning with a back injury, according to espn.com.
Insight: Before the game, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly told reporters that Puig "grabs something every time he takes a swing and misses," and then after the game took a sarcastic tone when describing the injury. "I guess (he hurt) his back," he said. "Shoulder yesterday, back today, so I'm not sure if they're going to get him tests or get him to the MRI Monday or a bone scan on Tuesday, maybe," Mattingly said. "I'm not quite sure what we'll do. We may not do anything. I'm not sure."

Cold3/22/2014 9:43:00 AM
Description: Yasiel Puig owners can't be happy with his first day's effort. Batting in the leadoff spot on Saturday in the Dodgers' season opener, Puig went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts.
Insight: Puig hit .333 when he was first in the lineup last season. We'll see if this is just a temporary fix because the team is without Carl Crawford for this opening series or if manager Don Mattingly really envisions Puig as his full-time leadoff man.

3/6/2014 12:14:00 PM
Description: Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig (back/shoulder) is in Thursday afternoon's Cactus League game.
Insight: Puig had left Wednesday's game early, but this confirms it was nothing serious. The 23-year-old outfielder is fun to watch and should be an across-the-board contributor to any fantasy league team.

2/21/2014 8:20:00 PM
Description: Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig showed up to spring training 26 pounds heavier than he was last season. SOURCE: Mark Saxon, ESPN Los Angeles
Insight: He's gone from 225 pounds to 251. Manager Don Mattingly certainly isn't thrilled with the weight gain. It remains to be seen whether this will have a negative impact on Puig's draft position in fantasy.

2/14/2014 8:52:00 AM
Description: The Dodgers have limited outfielder Yasiel Puig's throwing due to right shoulder inflammation, according to mlb.com.
Insight: Puig (.319, 19 HR, 42 RBI, 11 SB) dealt with the same issue sporadically last season and it flared up again when he overextended himself during his first day of camp. "We don't think it's serious, but we need to find out," manager Don Mattingly said.

2/4/2014 6:12:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles right fielder Yasiel Puig could hit leadoff in 2014. SOURCE: Dodgers.com
Insight: Puig (.319, 19 HR, 42 RBI, 11 SB) mostly hit second during his rookie campaign. Fantasy owners would probably prefer Puig hitting later in the lineup so he can drive in more runs. Regardless of where he ends up hitting, Puig remains one of the top fantasy options at his position heading into 2014.

12/28/2013 7:42:00 PM
Description: Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig was arrested for reckless driving Saturday morning in Florida. SOURCE: naplesnews.com
Insight: Puig was driving 110 mph on Alligator Alley. He was also arrested and charged with speeding, reckless driving and driving without proof of insurance in April, but the charges were dismissed. Puig is coming off a rookie year in which he hit .319 with 19 homers, 42 RBI, 66 runs, 11 steals and a .925 OPS in 104 games, but he may have some maturity issues to work out.

Cold10/12/2013 8:19:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles right fielder Yasiel Puig couldn't get out of his own way Saturday in Game 2 against the Cardinals.
Insight: All four of his trips to the plate resulted in strikeouts. Puig's most painful at bat of the night came in the sixth inning when he chased a pitch with the bases loaded that would have been ball four. So far, he's 0-for-10 in the NLCS after hitting .471 in the Division Series.

9/29/2013 1:27:00 PM
Description: As expected, Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig (foot) is back in the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Rockies.
Insight: Puig (.321, 19 HR, 42 RBI, 11 SB) didn't start Saturday's game though he did make a pinch-hitting appearance later on. He's had a terrific year but will probably finish second to Miami's Jose Fernandez in NL Rookie of the Year voting.
