Description: Atlanta second baseman Dan Uggla hit two homers, including a go-ahead grand slam in the top of the ninth, Monday at Philadelphia.

Insight: Uggla's low batting average becomes a lot more tolerable when he's producing good power numbers. However, that hasn't been the case this season as he's now homerless in 41 at bats. Tyler Pastornicky will draw the start at second base.

Cold10/1/2013 9:13:00 PM
Description: Braves second baseman Dan Uggla will not be on the team's NLDS roster, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com. Elliot Johnson will be the Braves' starting second baseman against the Dodgers.
Insight: Uggla underwent LASIK surgery in mid-August but it did not help him at the plate. He went 8-for-60 (.133) after returning from the procedure and 10-for-101 (.099) with one home run in his last 36 games of the season. In his last 235 MLB games, Uggla has gone 140-for-772 (.181) with 279 strikeouts and is likely done as an everyday player even though he has two years left on his contract with Atlanta.

Cold9/8/2013 11:04:00 AM
Description: Braves second baseman Dan Uggla is 4-for-28 (.143) with eight walks and seven strikeouts since returning from LASIK surgery.
Insight: Uggla may be able to see the baseball better but he still isn't getting his bat on it. He shouldn't be in any lineups Sunday against Phillies starter Cole Hamels, a pitcher he has gone 9-for-60 (.150) with 20 strikeouts against.

Cold9/4/2013 11:29:00 AM
Description: Braves second baseman Dan Uggla makes for a risky fantasy play Wednesday against New York.
Insight: Uggla hasn't had much success against Mets righthander Dillon Gee (4-for-26 with five strikeouts). He's hitting .150 since returning from LASIK eye surgery last week (3-for-20).

8/28/2013 7:18:00 PM
Description: Dan Uggla will bat sixth and play second base Wednesday in his return to the Braves lineup.
Insight: Uggla, who was activated from the DL earlier today, had LASIK surgery to improve his eyesight. The hope is that if Uggla (.186, 21 HR, 53 RBI) can see the ball better, it will increase his production.

8/28/2013 9:45:00 AM
Description: Atlanta second baseman Dan Uggla is expected to be activated from the 15-day disabled list for Wednesday's game against Cleveland.
Insight: Uggla vision has improved to 20/15. He went 2-for-4 in his latest rehab start and is hoping to return to the lineup on Wednesday. Perhaps now he can get his batting average over the "Mendoza Line."

Description: Atlanta second baseman Dan Uggla says that his vision is now 20/15 after undergoing LASIK eye surgery. SOURCE: Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Insight: Before the surgery it was between 20/30 and 20/35 so this represents a noticeable improvement. Uggla is still hoping to return August 28th, the day he first becomes eligible to come off the disabled list.

8/13/2013 9:35:00 PM
Description: Braves second baseman Dan Uggla (eyes) hopes to be back in the lineup when he is eligible to come off the disabled list on Aug. 28, according to MLB.com. Uggla will have LASIK surgery by the end of this week.
Insight: Uggla was diagnosed with astigmatism during spring training but held off on wearing contact lenses until June. The lenses haven't helped -- Uggla is 2-for-41 (.049) with 15 K over his last 12 games and 28-for-161 (.174) with 54 K since getting the contacts.

8/13/2013 3:35:00 PM
Description: Braves second baseman Dan Uggla has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Insight: Uggla has been dealing with vision issues and had surgery. He is an all-or-nothing guy in the Adam Dunn mold - batting .186 with 21 HR and 53 RBI.

8/6/2013 10:50:00 AM
Description: Braves second baseman Dan Uggla doesn't usually put the bat on the ball in his matchups against Nats lefty Gio Gonzalez.
Insight: In 20 plate appearances against Gonzalez, Uggla has one hit, eight walks and six strikeouts. It's probably best to avoid this matchup.

8/5/2013 11:36:00 AM
Description: Braves second baseman Dan Uggla hits Washington Nationals ace Stpehen Strasburg well and should be in lineups for Monday's matchup.
Insight: In a statistical quirk, Uggla hits .458 over his career against the Nats' flame thrower with a pair of homers and a 1.310 OPS. Despite a career batting average of .248, Uggla has batted above .300 against some of the league's best - Greg Maddux (.538), Stasburg, Roy Halladay (.324), John Smoltz (.318).

7/13/2013 8:52:00 PM
Description: Braves second baseman Dan Uggla hit his 17th homer of the season Saturday against the Reds.
Insight: Getting fitted for new contacts hasn't really made a difference in the second baseman's numbers. Since he got them, he's 16-for-74 (.216) with four home runs and a 25.9 percent strikeout rate.

6/23/2013 7:46:00 PM
Description: Braves second baseman Dan Uggla went 2-for-5 with one RBI and three strikeouts Sunday versus Milwaukee. He's 2-for-9 with four K and three walks since being fitted with new contacts.
Insight: Uggla was diagnosed with astigmatism in spring training and decided to get contacts this week. However, fantasy ownerss shouldn't expect them to cure all his woes at the plate.

6/21/2013 9:11:00 PM
Description: Braves second baseman Dan Uggla will wear contact lenses for the rest of the season to help with a vision problem and plans to have Lasik surgery in the offseason, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. If he had the surgery during the season, he would need a two-week stint on the disabled list. Uggla returned to the lineup Friday after missing Thursday's game.
Insight: Uggla was diagnosed with astigmatism in spring training and tried contacts then, but didn't see immediate improvement and ditched them. He thinks he has a better prescription this time. Uggla is hitting .189 with 200 strikeouts over his last 551 at-bats dating back to June 6, 2012, so perhaps this will make a difference.

6/20/2013 8:49:00 PM
Description: Braves second baseman Dan Uggla is having some vision problems and may have Lasik surgery, according to Jeff Schultz of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Insight: Maybe that explains why Uggla is hitting .189 with 200 strikeouts over his last 551 at-bats dating back to June 6, 2012.

6/16/2013 11:17:00 AM
Description: Braves second baseman Dan Uggla has gone 0-for-13 with six K against Giants starter Tim Lincecum.
Insight: Lincecum is no longer the dominating presence that won back-to-back Cy Young Awards, but it will still be tough to justify playing Uggla Sunday. The second baseman is batting .188 with 86 strikeouts this season.

6/15/2013 10:11:00 AM
Description: Braves second baseman Dan Uggla is 4-for-12 (.333) with a pair of homers and just two strikeouts against San francisco starter Chad Gaudin.
Insight: Any time Uggla has as many home runs as strikeouts it's a good matchup. Uggla hit only 19 homers in 154 games last year. The good news is that the power is back (13 HR), but the bad news is that he is batting .190 with 86 strikeouts in 210 at-bats. This is a good matchup.

6/14/2013 10:45:00 AM
Description: Braves second baseman Dan Uggla is 1-for-16 (.063) against San Francisco left-hander Madison Bumgarner.
Insight: He homered in two straight games versus the Dodgers, but added just two singles in a three-game set with San Diego. Uggla hit only 19 homers in 154 games last year. The good news is that the power is back (13 HR), but the bad news is that he is batting .193 with 84 strikeouts in 207 at-bats.

6/9/2013 8:10:00 PM
Description: Braves second baseman Dan Uggla socked a pair of homers and drove in four runs Sunday against the Dodgers.
Insight: He has homered in two straight games. Uggla hit just 19 homers in 154 games last year. The good news is that the power is back (13 HRs), but the bad news is that he is batting .193.
