Fahrbring earns maiden win in Norway
Oslo, Norway (Sports Network) - Jens Fahrbring shot 6-under-par 66 on Sunday to win the Norwegian Challenge by three strokes.
Fahrbring grabbed the third-round lead with a course-record 62 on Saturday and didn't relent Sunday, opening with an eagle to set the early tone. The Swede added four birdies to finish the tournament at 19-under-par 269 and claim his inaugural Challenge Tour victory.
"It feels surreal," said Fahrbring, who is in his first full season on the circuit. "I've been in a bubble the last 36 holes. I never thought I could win out here to be honest so this is the best feeling in the world for me."
Fahrbring's compatriot, Pontus Widegren, carded a 68 and tied for second with Daniel Im (67) at 16-under 272, one shot ahead of Johan Carlsson, who took solo fourth with a final-round 65 at Losby Golf Club.
In addition to his opening eagle, the 29-year-old Fahrbring added a birdie at the third to turn at 16-under, but Widegren met him there, making up his 1- stroke overnight deficit with four birdies over his outward nine.
Undaunted, Fahrbring reeled off three straight birdies from the 10th to grab a decisive advantage at 19-under, then played his final six holes at even-par to seal the win.
"Surprisingly I was really calm out there," said the victor, who was coming off a tie for third at the Finnish Challenge. "I got nervous maybe at the 16th tee but it's been a great week. I did not expect to play this well, I was actually quite tired going into this tournament and maybe not feeling that motivated. But maybe that was key for me to just relax and go out and play golf."
