Final Score: Texas Tech 24, Iowa State 13
Ames, IA (Sports Network) - Seth Doege threw for 331 yards and three touchdowns as the Texas Tech Red Raiders came from behind to capture a 24-13 win over the Iowa State Cyclones in Big 12 Conference play at Jack Trice Stadium.
Doege converted 30-of-46 passes for the Red Raiders (4-0, 1-0 Big 12), surviving three sacks and a couple of interceptions as the team remained undefeated on the campaign. Eric Ward accounted for nine catches for 122 yards and a score.
The Cyclones (3-1, 0-1) struggled on offense as they generated a total of just 189 yards, far below the 429.0 ypg they were averaging coming into the weekend. Quarterback Steele Jantz hit on 10-of-20 passes for 73 yards and a score, but he was taken down for four sacks and was picked off three times in the team's first loss of the campaign.
The first touchdown of the game came from the Iowa State defense as A.J. Klein stepped in front of a Doege pass over the middle and raced 87 yards the other way to give the Cyclones a 7-0 lead with just under two minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Texas Tech locked the score at 7-7 in the second quarter thanks to an 11-yard TD pass from Doege to Jakeem Grant, which is where the teams stood at the break.
The squads traded touchdowns in the third quarter, beginning with a four-yard pass from Jantz to Ernst Brun for the Cyclones, but a failed PAT left the hosts trailing by a point after Doege hooked up with Darrin Moore on a four-yard TD strike near the end of the frame.
The Red Raiders extended their lead to double figures in the fourth quarter as Doege found Ward with a 19-yard TD pass and kicker Ryan Bustin knocked through a 39-yard field goal with 2:20 to play to give the visitors a 24-13 victory.
Texas Tech entered the week ranked second in the nation in total offense (597.7 ypg) and sixth in scoring (50.3 ppg). The squad, saddled with 11 penalties for a loss of 80 yards, generated just 395 yards of total offense.
