Stamps RB Cornish highlights October's best in CFL
Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish headlined a group of three players selected as the CFL's top performers for the month of October.
Cornish took home both offensive honors and top Canadian honors (for the second consecutive month) after racking up 606 yards -- including four straight 100-plus-yard contests -- and four touchdowns on 75 rushes to help Calgary roll to a 4-1 month and West Division title with a 14-4 record overall.
The native of suburban Vancouver ended the regular season as the CFL's leading rusher with 1,813 yards and posted a league-best 14 rushing scores. He also picked up 83 yards on eight catches.
Montreal linebacker Chip Cox was selected as the league's top defensive performer. Cox, who was also tabbed as best defensive player for Week 17, finished October with 24 tackles, six sacks and one interception over five games for the playoff-bound Alouettes.
As he was in September, Stampeders kicker Rene Paredes was again named the top special teams performer, thanks to finishing 16-of-17 on field-goal attempts.
The Concordia product ended the 2013 season with a league-high 213 points and set a record for field-goal percentage at 94.7 percent (54-of-57).
