GAME NOTES: With three games remaining on the regular season schedule in the Atlantic 10 Conference, the George Washington Colonials will try to close the gap between the top teams and themselves. They'll start with a conference showdown against the George Mason Patriots at the Smith Center.

George Mason is coming off a win against Richmond 69-60, on Wednesday, but prior to that victory had lost two games in a row. The Patriots haven't been able to recover from multiple losing streaks this season, and own a 3-10 record in the Atlantic 10.

George Washington went on several big winning streaks this season, but has lost three of its past four games, including a 66-59 defeat at the hands of Saint Louis - the conference leader. The Colonials are 8-5 in the conference standings entering this matchup.

George Washington leads the all-time series against George Mason, 11-2. The Colonials extended their lead in the series with a win over the Patriots back on Jan. 25 earlier this year, 75-69.

George Mason all but put things away early against Richmond in the team's last outing on Tuesday, leading the Spiders at halftime, 37-16. The Patriots connected on 59.3 percent of their shots in the first frame, and, although Richmond shaved off 12 points from the George Mason lead in the second half, the Patriots were still able to post a nine-point win. Sherrod Wright netted a team-high 19 points for the Patriots, while Bryon Allen chipped in with 18 points and seven rebounds. Patrick Holloway contributed 10 points off the bench for George Mason in the victory.

Wright leads the team in scoring this season with a 15.7 ppg average on 45.8 percent shooting from the floor. Allen is extremely close to Wright's scoring total, netting 15.6 ppg of his own with a team-high 78 assists on the year. Jalen Jenkins tops the team in rebounding with a 6.3 rpg clip, and adds 28 blocked shots to his stat line. The Patriots are scoring 70.4 ppg this season, but are also giving up 72.6 ppg to their opponents.

George Washington trailed Saint Louis by 14 points early in the second half of last Sunday's action, but the Colonials made a run to tie the score at 50-50 with nine minutes to play in the contest. However, the Billikens went on a run following George Washington's to regain the lead and hold on for the win. Joe McDonald netted 21 points to lead the Colonials, hitting 7-of-16 from the field. Kevin Larsen scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the double- double, and Patricio Garino chipped in with 11 points. Isaiah Armwood pulled down 11 rebounds in the loss.

Maurice Creek, who scored just five points in the loss to Saint Louis, managed to hold onto his team-leading scoring average. Creek tops the squad with 13.7 ppg, although Kethan Savage, who averages 13.4 ppg, has been out since late January with a fractured left foot. Armwood is the next active leading scorer with 12.1 ppg, adding a team-high 8.5 rpg. McDonald tops the squad with 104 assists on the year and adds 43 steals to his resume. Garino (11.9 ppg) and Larsen (11.7 ppg) round out the double-digit scorers for George Washington.

The Colonials have been slumping with three losses in their past four games. A matchup against the 3-10 (in conference) Patriots may be just what the teams needs to get back on track.
