Towson, MD (Sports Network) - Jerrelle Benimon recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds as the Towson Tigers held on to defeat the Hofstra Pride, 67-64, in Colonial Athletic Association play at Towson Center Arena.
Marcus Damas and Jerome Hairston both tallied 17 points for the Tigers (18-13, 13-5 CAA) as they closed out the regular season on a four-game win streak. Rafriel Guthrie pitched in with 10 points off the bench.
The Pride (7-24, 4-14) were paced by Stevie Mejia with a game-high 22 points, followed by Moussa Kone and David Imes with 20 and 10 points, respectively, as they bowed for the second straight game and the sixth time in the last seven outings.
Hofstra led by as many as 10 points in the first half, but even with the Tigers shooting a mere 37.9 percent from the field and 3-of-12 beyond the arc in the period, the hosts were still able to stay within two points at the break, 30-28.
In the second half Towson connected on 50 percent from the floor and 13-of-17 at the free-throw line in order to secure the three-point decision.
In a game that featured four ties and 10 lead changes, the Tigers survived 18 turnovers by outscoring the visitors at the charity stripe, 16-9.
With the victory the Tigers established the largest turnaround in NCAA history, a plus-17.5 games, after posting just one win in 32 opportunities all of last season.
