NCAA Game Summary - Georgetown vs. Florida

(Friday, November 9th)

(10) Florida vs. Georgetown, canceled

Jacksonville, FL (Sports Network) - Friday's season-opening game between 10th- ranked Florida and Georgetown was halted after the first half due to condensation on the court.

The game, which won't count in the standings, was played on the USS Bataan at Naval Station Mayport.

The Gators were leading 27-23 when the drying effort started with the players warming up for the second half, but the decision was made to call off the contest due to player safety.

"It's dangerous down here. It's very dangerous and we don't want anyone to get hurt," Georgetown coach John Thompson III said.

It was the second game of the night that became a victim of condensation. The Carrier Classic between the fourth-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes and the Marquette Golden Eagles was canceled. That contest was to have been played on the deck of the USS Yorktown in Charleston, S.C.

"We're very disappointed, We certainly want to play, but the problem with the floor right now we don't want to get anyone hurt right now," Florida coach Billy Donovan said. "This has been a great experience for our basketball team."

Both teams will be back in action Sunday with Florida at home against Alabama State and Georgetown hosting Duquesne.
