The Bulldogs attempted 10 more shots from the field in the first half than their opponent and their tepid 32.4 percent shooting performance included 5- of-14 from beyond the arc. Butler also out-rebounded LSU 24-14 during the first twenty minutes to take a 27-26 scoring lead at the half.
Butler's offense improved to shoot 39.3 percent from the floor in the second half and again relied on the perimeter shot, sinking 4-of-7 from the outside. The Tigers shot a consistent 15-of-32 on field goals (46.9 percent), and Anthony Hickey hit a crucial 3-pointer with seven seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 61-61 and send it to overtime.
The decisive play in the extra session came with 10 seconds left when O'Bryant III corralled a defensive rebound and got sent to the line where he hit the first of his two free throws to put LSU up by four.
LSU got 24 points from its bench, while Butler's reserves failed to tally a single point in the contest.
