Boone, NC (Sports Network) - Nathan Healy dropped in 22 points as the
Appalachian State Mountaineers defeated the Elon Phoenix, 80-70, in Southern
Conference play at the Holmes Convocation Center.
For the Mountaineers (6-8, 2-1 SoCon), Mike Neal added 17 points, Tevin Baskin
posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, Jay Canty finished with
12 points and Tab Hamilton chipped in with 10.
Ryley Beaumont's 26 points for the Phoenix (8-7,1-2) led all scorers, while
Lucas Troutman finished with 14 points. Beaumont shot 11-of-13 from the floor
and also pulled down a team-best nine rebounds.
The Phoenix hit on 57.1 percent from the field and 2-of-9 from 3-point range
in the first half. The Mountaineers made 51.9 percent of their field goal
tries and connected on 5-of-11 from beyond the arc, as the teams went into
halftime knotted at 34-34.
Elon fell to 42.9 shooting from the field and managed just 2-of-11 on their 3-
point tries in the second half. The Mountaineers were able to hit on 46.4
percent from the field and knocked down 5-of-9 from 3-point range as they were
able to grab the win.
ASU scored 20 points off 15 Elon turnovers. The Phoenix had a slight edge on
points in the paint, 34-30.
