Final Score: Ohio 72, Buffalo 69
Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Led by 24 points from D.J. Cooper, the Ohio Bobcats outlasted the Buffalo Bulls, 72-69, in a Mid-American Conference tilt at Alumni Arena.
In the contest, Cooper became the first player in NCAA Division I history to record at least 2,000 points, 900 assists, 600 rebounds and 300 steals in a career.
For the Bobcats (22-8, 13-2 MAC), Ivo Baltic added 12 points. Despite the win, the Bobcats saw their chances of a regular season MAC title evaporate as Akron won their game Tuesday night and clinched the title.
Will Regan led the Bulls (12-18, 7-8) with 20 points, Javon McCrea finished with 19 points and Tony Watson posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Ohio took a 42-37 lead into the locker room by knocking down 56.3 percent of their field goals in the first half. Buffalo shot 51.9 percent from the field and had a 7-2 edge from the free-throw line.
In the second half, the Bobcats made just 39.3 percent of their shots from the field and 2-of-10 from 3-point range. The Bulls shot 46.2 percent from the field, including 2-of-7 from 3-point range. Ohio led by nine, 60-51, with nine minutes to play but a 13-0 run by Buffalo gave it a three-point lead. That would grow to as many as six, 69-63, but the Bobcats held the Bulls scoreless over the final 3:51 and finished the game on a 9-0 run to secure the road victory.
The Bulls had the edge on points in the paint, 42-30. The Bobcats converted 19 Bull turnovers into 27 points.
