NCAA Game Summary - Cincinnati at Houston
(Tuesday, January 7th)
Final Score: Cincinnati 61, Houston 60
Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Sean Kilpatrick scored 17 points as the Cincinnati Bearcats extended their winning streak to seven games with a 61-60 victory over the Houston Cougars in an American Athletic Conference thriller at Hofheinz Pavilion.
Jermaine Sanders added 11 points off the bench and Titus Rubles tallied 10 rebounds for Cincinnati (14-2, 3-0 AAC).
Brandon Morris paced Houston (10-6, 2-1) with 17 points. Jherrod Stiggers put in 11 points off the bench and TaShawn Thomas recorded 10 points and nine rebounds. Danrad Knowles collected 10 rebounds. The Cougars had a three-game winning streak snapped in the loss.
Cincinnati took a commanding, 40-24, lead at halftime. The Bearcats only shot at a 39.5 percent clip in the first period, but they had nearly twice as many field goals (15) as Houston (eight), while nailing 6-of-18 shots from beyond the arc.
The Cougars sank 7-of-10 shots from 3-point range, part of a 48.1 percent shooting effort in the second half, to come roaring back. They used a 10-1 run over the final three minutes to pull within two points (59-57) with 12 seconds to play. However, Kevin Johnson sank a pair of free-throws at the other end, making Tione Womack's buzzer-beating 3-pointer irrelevant.
Cincinnati had an 18-10 advantage in points off turnovers. Despite the one- point margin of victory, the game had just a single tie and not one lead change.
