North Dakota State extends men's hoops coach Phillips

Fargo, ND (Sports Network) - North Dakota State University and head men's basketball coach Saul Phillips have agreed on a multi-year contract extension, the school's athletic department announced Thursday.

Phillips, who is entering is seventh season as NDSU's head coach, accepted a five-year contract with a two-year rollover.

"I am very pleased we are able to secure Saul for several more years. He is an excellent person with a great family and has proven to be an outstanding coach," athletic director Gene Taylor said. "He has led a team to the NCAA tournament and, after losing some of our program's most productive and talented basketball players to graduation, he has built another team that has excellent talent with high expectations. Saul has become a very valued and respected member of our staff and has a very talented group of assistants that complement him."

Phillips led the Bison to a 24-10 mark last season and a second straight appearance in the College Basketball Invitational. NDSU returned to the Summit League title game for the first time since winning the 2009 league championship.

The 34-year-old Phillips was named head coach at NDSU in 2007 after spending three seasons as an assistant with the Bison. He owns a 108-77 record.

The school also announced that wrestling coach Roger Kish and softball coach Darren Mueller each accepted three-year contracts with two-year rollovers.
