Albany, NY (Sports Network) - Candon Rusin scored a team-high 14 points in 21 minutes off the bench, and the second-seeded Vermont Catamounts upended the No. 7 seed New Hampshire Wildcats, 61-42, in quarterfinal-round action of the America East Conference Tournament at SEFCU Arena.
Sandro Carissimo added 10 points for the Catamounts (20-10), who move on to face No. 6 seed UMBC in Sunday's semifinal round. It marks the 11th time in 12 years UVM is in the semifinals.
Ferg Myrick had a game-high 15 points and Patrick Konan scored 12 for the Wildcats (9-20).
The first half belonged to UNH, as the Wildcats shot 50 percent from the floor and held Vermont to 26.9-percent shooting to claim a 26-20 lead at the break.
However, the momentum shifted dramatically after halftime. The Catamounts matched their first-half field goal total (7) just nine minutes into the second half. The Wildcats could muster only four field goals (.174) over the final 20 minutes as they were outscored, 41-16.
With the victory, Vermont coach John Becker became the first coach in school history to post back-to-back 20-win seasons in his first two years at the helm.
