GAME NOTES: A pair of teams that have fallen on hard times in the Ohio Valley Conference meet at the Eblen Center, as Austin Peay visits Tennessee Tech.
Austin Peay will try to break a four-game losing streak, while Tennessee Tech will try to stop a three-game slide.
The Golden Eagles head into this contest off a 47-39 home loss to Murray State on Thursday. Jud Dillard netted 12 points and Dennis Ogbe chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds. The Golden Eagles are losers of eight of their last nine games. Despite the great defense, the Golden Eagles couldn't overcome 25.5 percent shooting from the field.
Tennessee Tech's lone double-digit scorer is Dillard at 19.2 ppg. His offensive effort is second-best in the conference. Tennessee Tech is scoring just 63.4 points a game, which is near the bottom of the OVC. The Golden Eagles are also shooting 41.6 percent from the floor, which ranks next-to-last in the conference. Additionally, TTU's .317 percentage on 3-pointers is dead last in the OVC.
The Governors are still looking for their first road win of the season, sitting at 0-8 away from the Dunn Center. Austin Peay suffered an 81-74 loss at Jacksonville State on Thursday. Travis Betran and Chris Horton scored 18 points each for the Govs. Horton also pulled down 10 boards while Will Triggs netted 16 points and Anthony Campbell contributed 13 points to go along with five assists. Betran (17.5), Campbell (14.2) and Triggs (12.6) are all averaging in double figures. Horton (6.6 rpg) leads the team on the boards.
Austin Peay has lost 12 of its last 13 games. The Governors' 55.2 percent shooting effort against Jacksonville State was their best against a Division I opponent this season. The problem has been at the defensive end as the Governors are allowing opponents to shoot 45.3 percent, which is next-to-last in the OVC. On the positive note, the Govs are first in the conference in 3- point percentage (.403). Freshman guard Cory Arentsen is second in the OVC, making 48.1 percent of his shots from beyond the arc. Horton leads the conference in blocks per game (3.0).
Tennessee Tech has won the last four matchups in this series, and last year posted 94 points in a six-point victory in Clarksville. Each of the last seven games have been decided by six points or less.
