Reno, NV (Sports Network) - Chase Tapley scored 17 points as the San Diego State Aztecs posted a 78-57 win over the Nevada Wolf Pack in Mountain West Conference action at the Lawlor Events Center.
Also scoring in double figures for SDSU (15-4, 3-2 MWC) were Jamaal Franklin and JJ O'Brien with 14 and 12 points, respectively, the former also clearing seven rebounds, handing out five assists and capturing four steals in order to offset his six turnovers. The victory snapped a two-game slide by the Aztecs.
As for Nevada (10-8, 1-3), which has now dropped four of the last five outings, it was paced by Malik Story who tallied 17 points, followed by Jerry Evans with 14 and seven boards and Deonte Burton who responded with 12 points and six assists, but shot only 2-of-11 from the floor.
San Diego State led by as many as 14 points in the first half, but the team allowed the Pack to battle back and make the score 39-38 at the break. The Aztecs connected on an impressive 53.3 percent from the floor through the first 20 minutes of action, but that afforded the squad just the one-point advantage.
In the second half the SDSU defense clamped down on the hosts, limiting Nevada to a total of just six made field goals and 0-of-8 beyond the arc. The visitors again shot the ball well from the field (.556) in the frame as they ran away with the 21-point victory.
The reserves for San Diego State came up with 25 points on the night, compared to just 10 for Nevada.
