Mount Pleasant, MI (Sports Network) - Led by nine points from Terence Jones, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders downed the Central Michigan Chippewas 49-47 in a BracketBusters matchup at McGuirk Arena.
The Islanders (5-21) failed to have any players score in double figures.
Trey Ziegler led the Chippewas (8-18) with 22 points while Derek Jackson chipped in 15 points.
Texas A&M-CC shot 41.7 percent from the field to start the contest, including 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. Central Michigan struggled, making just 30.4 percent and missing all but one of its nine three-point attempts as the Islanders took as 23-19 lead into the break.
The teams continued to struggle in the second half. The Islanders made just 38.9 percent of their field goals while the Chippewas were only 36 percent from the floor. The Islanders were able to outscore the Chippewas from the free-throw line 10-8 in the second half as they held on for the victory.
Central Michigan outscored Texas A&M-CC in the paint, 24-16. The Islanders converted 11 Chippewa turnovers into 14 points.
