Anchorage, AK (Sports Network) - Ryan Brimley buried a three-pointer with three seconds remaining to lift the Southern Utah Thunderbirds to a 64-61 victory over the Houston Baptist Huskies in the final round of the Great Alaska Shootout at Sullivan Arena.
Matt Massey scored a team-high 20 points for Southern Utah (2-4), which finished the tournament in seventh place. Matt Hodgson and Kyle Davis netted 11 points apiece for the Thunderbirds.
Andrew Gonzalez tallied 18 points in defeat for Houston Baptist (0-6), which placed last in the eight-team event. The Huskies also received 12 points and five assists from Michael Moss off the bench.
Southern Utah led 38-23 at intermission after limiting Houston Baptist to 29.2 percent shooting from the floor in the first half.
The Huskies shot just 33.3 percent in the second half. After Brimley hit his clutch three-pointer, Moss got off a long range shot of his own at the buzzer that was off the mark.
Southern Utah earned a 46-28 rebounding advantage in the tilt, overshadowing a 22-10 deficit in points from the foul line.
