GAME NOTES: The Syracuse Orange welcome their most familiar foe to the Carrier Dome this evening, as they play host to the Colgate Red Raiders.

This marks the 162nd all-time meeting between these two teams, with Syracuse holding a decisive 116-45 advantage in the series. The Orange have won an amazing 43 straight against the Red Raiders, including an 86-51 romp last season. Syracuse and Colgate have met each season since 1993.

Jim Boeheim's Orange continue their upward climb in the national polls, as they have opened the season with six straight victories, including capturing the 2K Sports Classic title, with an 87-71 dispatch of the defending national champion North Carolina Tar Heels. Most recently, Syracuse kept its perfect season intact with an 85-60 blasting of Columbia on Friday.

While Syracuse has yet to taste defeat, Emmett Davis' Red Raiders have yet to enjoy a victory. Colgate was edged out by St. Francis (NY) over the weekend, 66-65 and fell to 0-5 on the season as a result.

It was their home opener on Saturday, but a buzzer-beater by St. Francis ruined that and left the Red Raiders still winless on the season. Colgate let a 16-point lead slip away, while St. Francis overcame a poor first half of shooting (.385) to shoot a blistering .586 after the break and steal the victory. Forward Yaw Gyawu had a strong outing in defeat, as he poured in a game-high 22 points. Kyle Roemer was productive as well, adding 18 points to the cause. It has been the same old story all season long, as Roemer and Gyawu are the only reliable offensive threats the Red Raiders have. Roemer is the top perimeter weapon, averaging 18.4 ppg, thanks in part to his 40.9-percent clip from behind the arc (18-of-44). Gyawu does most of his work underneath, converting an efficient 56.1 percent from the floor, leading to nearly 16 points per game (15.8).

The Orange have enjoyed great success at both ends of the floor this season and as a result, boast an inflated +25.0 scoring margin. There is no shortage of offensive weapons on this roster, as the team is shooting .537 from the floor collectively, leading to 88.3 ppg. Four of the five starters are averaging double figures, led by forward Wes Johnson's strong play up front. Johnson currently leads the team in scoring (18.3 ppg) and rebounding (7.2 rpg), while converting .569 from the floor. Center Arinze Onuaku is hitting an even better 68.8 percent and averaging 12.3 ppg. Guards Brandon Triche and Andy Rautins provide plenty of perimeter support at 11.2 and 10.3 ppg, respectively. In the lopsided win over Columbia, Johnson was at it again, netting a career-high 26 points, including four three-pointers. Onuaku and reserve Mookie Jones both tallied 12 points in the victory, while Rick Jackson just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Red Raiders haven't defeated the Orange in a long, long time and that isn't likely to change this season. Syracuse is simply better in every facet of the game and their talented depth will wear down Colgate tonight in what should be another blowout.
