Abrams and Texas rout Cougars

Austin, TX (Sports Network) - A.J. Abrams scored a career-high 28 points, drilling eight three-pointers, to lead the 21st-ranked Texas Longhorns to a 92-66 rout of the Chicago State Cougars in the quarterfinals of the 2k Sports College Hoops Classic.

Kevin Durant scored 21 and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Longhorns (2-0). Damion James added 14 points and D.J. Augustin scored 13 points.

Cam-Ron Clay led all Cougars with 18 points and added 10 rebounds. Also registering a double-double for Chicago State (1-1) was Michael Henderson, with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

The Longhorns advanced to the semifinals with the win, and will square off against Michigan State on Friday, November 16 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Chicago State hung tight in the first half, staying as close as 32-28 midway through the first half. Abrams and Texas quickly pulled away, however, as the sophomore guard hit six three-pointers in the first half to push the Longhorns out to a 56-42 lead at the break.

The onslaught continued in the second half, as the Cougars trailed by double- digits for the rest of the game.

Game Notes

Abrams' six three-pointers tied a Texas record for three-pointers made in one half...Texas lost all five starters from last year's 30-win team...Texas made 13-of-24 three-point shots attempted, against a 4-for-21 performance by Chicago State...Texas outrebounded the Cougars 43-37, and Chicago State outscored the Longhorns in the paint, 36-28.
