UMKC fires Brown

Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - The University of Missouri-Kansas City has fired head men's basketball coach Matt Brown.

The Kangaroos finished 8-24 this season and 5-11 in Summit League play.

"Matt ran our men's basketball program with dignity," director of athletics Tim Hall said. "He put student-athlete welfare and academics in the forefront. The coaches and student-athletes have represented UMKC and Kansas City in a first class manner under his watch, and I personally wish him nothing but the best."

Brown posted a 64-122 overall record in his career at UMKC. Brown's best year came in 2010-11, when the squad posted a 16-14 overall record.

Brown spent 10 years as an assistant under John Beilein at Richmond and West Virginia before taking over at UMKC in 2007.

UMKC has already announced plans to join the WAC next season. It has been a member of the Summit League since 1994.
