South Padre Island, TX (Sports Network) - The duo of Harouna Mutombo and Keaton Cole scored 14 points apiece to lead the Western Carolina Catamounts to a 62-46 win over the Florida A&M Rattlers as part of the South Padre Island Invitational.
Preston Ross added 13 points in the win for WCU (3-4), while Tawaski King collected a game-high 14 rebounds for the Catamounts.
Reggie Lewis scored 14 points to lead the way for Florida A&M (0-6), while Yannick Crowder finished with a double-double of 11 points and 11 boards in a losing effort.
The Rattlers held the Catamounts to just 40.0 percent shooting from the field during the opening 20 minutes of play, but still A&M found itself trailing by a 35-23 margin heading into the break.
The WCU defense took over in the second frame, limiting the Rattlers to a paltry 26.9 percent from the floor en route to the 16-point victory.
The Rattlers were guilty of a game-high 21 giveaways in the loss.
