Cancun, MX (Sports Network) - Mike Smith recorded 20 points and 16 rebounds to lead East Tennessee State to a 79-51 victory over Appalachian State in a consolation game of the 2010 Cancun Governor's Cup.
Isiah Brown added 16 points for the Buccaneers (5-7), who had lost their first two games of the tournament. Adam Sollazzo contributed 14 points, while Micah Williams had 13 with seven rebounds in the victory.
Omar Carter scored 16 points to lead the Mountaineers (4-7), who finished this tournament with an 0-3 mark. Nathan Healy had 14 points in the setback.
Appalachian State began the game with the first five points, but ETSU responded with a 16-0 run to take control.
Justin Tubbs' three-pointer capped the burst to give the Buccaneers an 11- point lead, and they stretched the advantage to as much as 21 before taking a 45-26 cushion into halftime.
ETSU led the entire second half by double-digits, including a game-high 26- point margin after Sollazzo's dunk provided a 68-42 lead with 8:12 to play in the contest.
