Yates and Newman Haas to form partnership Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - NASCAR's Robert Yates Racing has entered into an agreement to partner with Champ Car's most successful current team - Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing. Both RYR and NHLR have had close ties with Ford which helped get them together. Yates has used Ford power for the last 20 years and won the 1999 Nextel Cup championship with Dale Jarrett Fifty-five of Newman/Haas/Lanigan's 101 wins have also been with Ford. The team has also won the last three Champ Car titles with driver Sebastien Bourdais. "NASCAR Nextel Cup racing is rapidly moving, technology-wise, to engineering areas that Newman/Haas/Lanigan has years of experience with already," said Dan Davis, director of Ford Racing Technology. "And Robert Yates Racing brings years of engine development and race craft in the sport that is invaluable to this operation." "We have been looking to add other forms of racing to our Champ Car program and when the opportunity came along to work with Robert Yates Racing, a team that shares the same drive for success that we do, it was too good of an opportunity to pass up," said owner Carl Haas. 07/27 15:26:18 ET Powered by The Sports Network. |
