Lesue, Vasquez & Everett earn weekly awards

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Utah Blaze WR AARON LESUE has been named Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week. Milwaukee Mustangs DL LUIS VASQUEZ and WR MARCUS EVERETT have been named Riddell Defensive Player of

the Week and JLS Ironman of the Week, respectively, for Week 3 of the 2012 AFL season. In addition to these three awards, the AFL is also awarding the Cutters Catch of the Week, the AFL Playmaker of the Week and the Spalding Highlight of the Week. The Cutters Catch of the Week award winner for Week 3 is WR ALVANCE ROBINSON of the Utah Blaze, while the AFL Playmaker of the Week is WR DONOVAN MORGAN of the Philadelphia Soul. The Spalding Highlight of the Week award winner is the DB KELVIN RODGERS' kickoff return touchdown for the Chicago Rush.

RUSSELL ATHLETIC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Blaze WR Lesue (5'11, 190, Utah State) led the charge in the Blaze's 60-59 win over the top-ranked SaberCats. Lesue notched 15 catches for 125 yards and four touchdowns and dazzled the crowd of more than 8,000 fans at the EnergySolutions Arena. After three weeks of play, Lesue ranks fifth in the League in scoring with 10 touchdowns on the season. Lesue leads the League in receptions (32). He also ranks second in receptions per game with an average of nine catches per contest.

RIDDELL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Vasquez (6'3, 260, Arizona State) compiled four tackles and 2.5 sacks in the Mustangs 65-42 win over the New Orleans VooDoo. Vasquez's defensive pressure was a key in the road win, and his numbers this season back up his tremendous play. Vasquez ranks fourth in the League in both sacks (2.5), tackles for loss (2.5) and second in fumbles recovered (1).

JLS IRONMAN OF THE WEEK

Everett (6'1, 200, UCLA) tallied one interception, one receiving touchdown and a rushing touchdown, to help Milwaukee to their first win of 2012. Everett's effort was key in stealing a road win at New Orleans and helping improve the team to .500 on the season. His 27-yard interception placed him in seventh place in the League in interception return yards. Everett is now one of eight players this season with one interception return touchdown.

CUTTERS CATCH OF THE WEEK

With time expiring, Utah QB Tommy Grady threw a strike to WR Alvance Robinson (5'9, 190, Alabama State University) late in the fourth quarter against the top ranked SaberCats. The TD gave Utah the one-point lead and eventual upset victory.

AFL PLAYMAKER OF THE WEEK

For the Philadelphia Soul offense, it was Morgan (6'3, 210, Pearl River Community College) who stepped up and shined against in-state rival the Pittsburgh Power. Morgan recorded 12 catches for 112 yards and four touchdowns in the team's victory, Morgan also tallied three carries for 23 yards in the game.

SPALDING HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

As time expired in the first half, DB Kelvin Rodgers (6'2, 180, Minnesota State University) made a play to shift the momentum of the game and re-energize the home crowd at the Allstate Arena. Just after the Predators went ahead by one point, Rodgers helped the Rush reclaim the lead with a 50-yard return touchdown. Rodgers had 86 return yards total in the game that day and also forced a fumble.

Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Chicago's Reggie Gray, Cleveland's John Dutton, Milwaukee's Jonathan Wilson, Philadelphia's Donovan Morgan and Georgia's Larry Shipp.

Riddell Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Chicago's Derek Walker, Cleveland's Levy Brown, Pittsburgh's LaRico Stevenson, Georgia's Eric Crosby and San Jose's Gabe Nyenhuis.

JLS Ironman of the Week candidates included: Orlando's Dwayne Eley, Jr., Cleveland's Joe Phinisee, Pittsburgh's Bryan Williams and Jacksonville's Terrance Smith.

The Arena Football League is also awarding the National Guard MVP of the Week, where fans are given the opportunity to select the winner on Facebook and ArenaFootball.com. Candidates include Utah QB TOMMY GRADY, Georgia WR LARRY SHIPP and Chicago WR REGGIE GRAY.
