=== Pitiful Nets head north to face Raptors ===
( - The Brooklyn Nets will try to halt a five-game losing
streak on Tuesday night when they head north to take on the Toronto Raptors at
 Air Canada Centre.
The Nets have been simply dreadful. They've dropped eight of their last nine
with the only victory coming in Phoenix 11 days ago.
The most recent setback came Sunday night at home against the Detroit Pistons.
The Nets blew a seven-point halftime lead when they lost the third quarter,
To start the final quarter, Nets coach Jason Kidd left his bench players on
the floor instead of the heavily ballyhooed starters.
"They deserved to play. I should have let them play the whole game or the
whole quarter," Kidd told the New York Daily News. "They're playing, you know,
for one another. It's not perfect but that group that gave us an opportunity
 by cutting it to eight."
Paul Pierce seemed angered by the decision, but Kevin Garnett summed it up
"If we're not carrying our weight, then obviously (Kidd) is going to put
somebody in that is. It's tough times right now," he said. "I think everybody
 here is embarrassed."
With Deron Williams, Brook Lopez, Jason Terry and Andrei Kirilenko all
sidelined against the Pistons, Joe Johnson led the way with 34 points. Pierce
had 19 and Andray Blatche managed 10 points.
Williams, Lopez and Kirilenko are all expected to miss the Raptors game, while
 Terry could return.
The Raptors have won two straight, and, despite a sub .500 record, lead the
woeful Atlantic Division by a single game over the Philadelphia 76ers. The
 Nets are only three behind.
The Raptors picked up their most recent win with a 96-88 victory over the
Washington Wizards at home on Friday.
Rudy Gay and DeMar DeRozan led the way for Toronto with 17 points apiece. Amir
Johnson managed 14 points, while Kyle Lowry chipped in 12 points, nine assists
 and three steals.
Jonas Valanciunas registered a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Terrance Ross scored 11 off the bench.
The Raptors should have everyone available on Tuesday, although a flu bug
 ravaged the team at practice.
"It's going around," said head coach Dwane Casey. "It's part of the NBA."
The Nets won three of four last season, but have dropped 10 of their last 14
 in Toronto.
