Publinx medalist Seong, 14, advances

DuPont, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Eun Jeong Seong, the 14-year-old Korean who set a stroke-play record, made it through the first round of match play on Wednesday at the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship.

Seong's 8-under 64 on Tuesday broke the championship stroke-play scoring mark but she had to rally twice down the stretch in her first-round match to beat American Samantha Gotcher.

She birdied the 16th hole at The Home Course to even the match, then birdied No. 18 after Gotcher had gone 1-up again with a par. Seong closed out her 1-up win with a birdie on the first extra hole, the par-4 first.

Defending champion Lauren Diaz-Yi also advanced to the second round with a 3 & 2 win over Canada's Robyn Doig.

Match play lasts through Saturday's 36-hole final.
