Mackenzie moves two clear in Victoria
Victoria, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Brock Mackenzie carded a 4-under 66 on Friday and moved two strokes clear of the field after two rounds of the Bayview Place Island Savings Open.
Mackenzie, the 2010 Times Colonist Open winner, finished 36 holes at 11-under- par 129. This is the first time he has posted back-to-back rounds in the 60s since the Tour Championship of Canada last fall.
Timothy Madigan carded a 6-under 64 on Friday. He was joined in second place at minus-9 by Josh Persons, who posted a 65 in round two. Michael Buttacavoli (64) and Jake Sarnoff (68) are tied for fourth at 8-under 132.
Garrett Sapp (65), Joel Dahmen (67) and Wes Homan (64) share sixth at minus-7.
Mackenzie got off to a slow start as he bogeyed the second. Otherwise, he parred six of the first seven holes. Mackenzie birdied the eighth to kick off a hot stretch.
The American also birdied the ninth, then birdied the first three holes of the back nine to make it five in a row. His run ended with a bogey on the par-4 13th. Mackenzie erased that mistake with a birdie on the 15th, then closed with three pars in a row.
NOTES: Mackenzie had two top-10 finishes in nine starts last year ... The cut line fell at 1-under-par 139 with 76 players moving on to the weekend ... Among those missing the cut were James Love, Kent Eger, Clayton Rask and Stuart Anderson.
