Description: As expected, Washington released Portis on Monday.
Insight: The veteran has broken down over the past couple of seasons after some heavy workloads through his early seasons. He might land somewhere else, but don't expect Portis to fill a significant role for fantasy purposes. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: After much speculation, the Redskins have finally released RB Clinton Portis.
Insight: Portis was due a little over $8 million in 2011 and $25 million over the next three years. Despite only being 29, Portis has a ton of tread on the tires from his years as a Redskin and also a Bronco. He will get interest, but he's nothing more than a committee back. Ryan Torain, for now, appears to be the favorite to start Week One in 2011.

Description: During a radio interview, Redskins RB Clinton Portis said he expects to be released Monday.
Insight: Portis was never going to see the $8 million he was due in 2011 and he was never going to take a paycut to stay. Set to turn 30 at the beginning of the regular season, Portis is now nothing more than a committee back. And given his injury history, that might even be a stretch.
2/28/2011 12:03:00 PM
Description: Portis is expected to be released Monday.
Insight: The running back most recently said so himself during Monday morning radio interview, but such reports have been floating for nearly a week. Washington obviously doesn't need the disintegrating veteran with the big contract and bigger attitude. It'll be surprising if any other team gives him a shot at a feature job. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: The Fredricksburg Freelance Star reports Portis (groin) underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn groin muscle and a torn abdominal muscle.
Insight: Portis' recovery is expected to take "several months." He may have to take a significant pay cut to return to the Redskins in 2011. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: Redskins RB Clinton Portis said he would like to return to Washington next season.
SOURCE: CSN WASHINGTON
Insight: Due $8.254 million in 2011, the only way Portis will have a chance at returning is if he takes a huge paycut. Portis underwent two different surgeries on Tuesday; one to repair an abdominal muscle tear and another to repair his groin. He will turn 30 before next season, but his body is that of a running back who is well past that age.
11/27/2010 11:00:00 PM
Description: The Washington Post reports Portis (groin) will undergo surgery some time next week.
Insight: Portis will almost certainly have a new team in 2011, as Washington is unlikely to want to pay him $8.254 million next season. (RapidDraft.com)
11/24/2010 1:01:00 PM
Description: Jason Reid of the Washington Post reports Portis (groin) has been placed on injured reserve, ending his 2010 season.
Insight: Portis had expressed optimism he would be able to play in Week 12. He is due to make $8.25 million in 2011, so his Redskins' career could be over. (RapidDraft.com)
11/24/2010 12:41:00 PM
Description: The Redskins have placed RB Clinton Portis (groin) on injured reserve.
Insight: So much for Portis hoping to play this weekend. Portis' $8.254 million salary in 2011 will almost certainly put him on the chopping block in the offseason. Keiland Williams will keep the starting job for the time being, but he could continue to start even after Ryan Torain (hamstring) comes back.

Description: Redskins RB Clinton Portis still hopes to play this week against the Vikings.
SOURCE: FREDERICKSBURG FREE LANCE-STAR
Insight: An MRI revealed no new damage to Portis' injured groin, but Mike Shanahan already considered him a long shot to play. Since Portis admitted he came back too soon last week, we don't expect him to suit up. Keiland Williams will get the majority of the snaps, with James Davis backing him up.
11/23/2010 12:09:00 PM
Description: Redskins RB Clinton Portis' MRI revealed only swelling to his injured groin.
Insight: Portis was knocked out early against the Titans and it was initially rumored that he could have been done for the season. Portis admitted he came back to soon, so don't expect him to suit up Week Twelve.
11/23/2010 12:02:00 PM
Description: Jason Reid of the Washington Post reports an MRI on Portis' groin revealed only swelling.
Insight: Portis may be able to continue to play, but he and the team should exercise more caution this time around. Fantasy owners can hang onto him, but temper their expectations. (RapidDraft.com)
11/22/2010 1:38:00 PM
Description: Redskins RB Clinton Portis' aggravated groin injury could cost him the rest of the season.
SOURCE: WASHINGTON POST
Insight: Portis admitted he played at less than 100 percent, but he wouldn't rule himself out for Week Twelve, despite Mike Shanahan saying Portis would be a "long shot" to play. We expect Keiland Williams to get another start against the Vikings with, possibly, Ryan Torain backing him up.
11/22/2010 12:03:00 PM
Description: Portis (groin) had five carries for 32 yards and one catch for 14 yards on Sunday against the Titans.
Insight: Portis aggravated his groin in the game, but has expressed hope he will be able to play in Week 12 against Minnesota. Fantasy owners should be skeptical. (RapidDraft.com)
11/22/2010 12:03:00 PM
Description: Updating a previous item, Jason Reid of the Washington Post reports the aggravation of Portis' groin injury on Sunday could cost him the rest of the season.
Insight: Portis is slated for an MRI on Monday, after which more should be known. (RapidDraft.com)
11/21/2010 11:16:00 AM
Description: Redskins RB Clinton Portis (groin) is expected to start against the Titans Sunday.
Insight: It's still hard to think Portis will be the main back and carry the ball more than 15 times. Keiland Williams figures to have some fantasy value, but not as much as we thought. This is a situation to avoid if possible. Looks like Mike Shanahan is up to his old tricks.
11/19/2010 3:05:00 PM
Description: Rich Campbell of the Fredricksburg Freelance Star reports Redskins' head coach Mike Shanahan confirmed Portis (groin) will return in Week 11.
Insight: Portis may not have a significant role against Tennessee on Sunday even though he's active, so fantasy owners should wait another week before considering him at all. (RapidDraft.com)
11/18/2010 5:05:00 PM
Description: Larry Weisman of Redskins Rule.com reports Portis (groin) was limited in Thursday's practice.
Insight: Portis' status for Sunday against Tennessee is definitely still up in the air. (RapidDraft.com)
11/18/2010 1:00:00 AM
Description: Portis (groin) was limited in practice on Wednesday.
Insight: Portis' status for Sunday against the Titans is unknown at this point, but he may have a limited role even if he does play. (RapidDraft.com)
11/16/2010 3:10:00 PM
Description: Redskins RB Clinton Portis (groin) gave himself a "50-50" chance at playing this weekend against the Titans.
SOURCE: WASHINGTON POST
Insight: Portis tried to practice last week, but suffered swelling and soreness in his groin. After Ryan Torain was a surprise scratch against the Eagles with a hamstring injury, Keiland Williams is the only healthy running back right now. Don't expect Portis to have any fantasy relevance for the rest of the year. His glory days are clearly behind him.
