Insight: Smith suffered the injury in Week 16's game against the Steelers, but he was able to finish the game. There is only an outside shot the Chiefs make the playoffs, however, even if they do, Smith will be out six weeks with this injury and probably won't be able to return until the Super Bowl. Chase Daniel, who has a similar skillset to Smith, will start versus the Chargers in a must-win game.

Insight: Stat changes normally come a day or two after the game, so this is pretty late in the game. Hopefully this didn't change any results from Week 5 other than the margin of victory. With one less touchdown, Smith has thrown for nine on the season versus four interceptions.

Insight: Smith is not blessed with many quality receivers and with Jamaal Charles sidelined he can't even get fantasy points from screen passes that Charles so often took to the house last season. Smith has one touchdown pass and three INTs this season and should be avoided for now.

Insight: Smith has not looked good this preseason and lacks the weapons on offense (besides Jamaal Charles) to put any confidence in fantasy owners. The quarterback is 31-for-51 for 286 yards and three turnovers this month.

Insight: Statistically, this was easily the best season of Smith's career (23 TD, 7 INT, 3,313 passing yards in 15 contests). As it stands now, Smith will be a free agent after the 2014 season.

Description: Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith was terrific in Saturday's loss to Indianapolis. He finished the game with four touchdowns, no picks and 378 passing yards.
Insight: He also picked up 57 yards rushing on eight attempts. The 378 yards through the air were a season-high for Smith, whose lone blemish came on a fumble about midway through the third quarter. According to Elias, Smith is the first QB in NFL history to record at least 4 TD with no interceptions in a loss.

Insight: Andy Reid has elected to rest his starters ahead of next week's Wild Card game. Smith will finish his first season in Kansas City with 23 TD, 7 INT and an impressive 89.1 quarterback rating. Backup Chase Daniel will draw the start at quarterback.
