Insight: Lewis suffered a broken leg last weekend versus Detroit. He probably would have been the backup for Trent Richardson if he had stayed healthy. Instead, that honor will go to Brandon Jackson (eight rushes, 54 yards in 2012).

Description: Cleveland running back Dion Lewis, who was the leading candidate to back up Trent Richardson, suffered a fractured fibula in Thursday night's exhibition game against Detroit.
Insight: That's bad news for the Browns and good news for Brandon Jackson and Montario Hardesty. Jackson is the new favorite to win the backup role and Hardesty might make the final 53-man roster.

Description: Cleveland backup running back Dion Lewis might end up being the No. 2 guy behind Trent Richardson if he continues to impress.
Insight: That's bad news for Montario Hardesty, who was expected to win the backup role. Lewis didn't get much playing time last year in Philadelphia, stuck behind LeSean McCoy and Bryce Brown.

Description: Eagles backup running back Dion Lewis is inactive for Week 2. He isn't injured.
Insight: Lewis has been demoted behind Bryce Brown and it is Brown that should be handcuffed to starter LeSean McCoy.

Description: Eagles backup running back Dion Lewis is listed as questionable (hamstring) for Sunday's game against Cleveland.
Insight: With coach Andy Reid's other options for the backup role both rookies, we expect that starter LeSean McCoy will not see any reduction in workload as has been speculated during the offseason. At least until Lewis is healthy. Reid can't afford to have a rookie miss a block and get his fragile quarterback killed.
