Description: The Colts have signed former Patriots receiver Deion Branch, five days before they play at New England in the divisional round of the playoffs.
Insight: Branch didn't play in the NFL this season after catching just 16 passes in 10 games in 2012. The 34-year-old played with the Patriots from 2002-05 and 2010-12, winning the MVP in Super Bowl XXXIX. Branch is unlikely to play much of a role Saturday, but the Colts are obviously looking for any competitive edge they can get.

Description: The Patriots will re-sign receiver Deion Branch, a source told Albert Breer of the NFL Network.
Insight: Branch was let go in mid-November but Donte' Stallworth was placed on injured reserve with an ankle sprain Tuesday, creating an opening for Branch to rejoin the team. Branch only has nine receptions in seven games this season so he can be ignored in fantasy circles.

Description: The Patriots have released Deion Branch and Malcolm Williams, promoted Greg Salas to the active roster and activated Aqib Talib. Branch reportedly injured his hamstring Friday and was questionable to play Sunday versus the Colts. SOURCE: Tom E. Curran, CSN New England
Insight: Branch only had nine receptions for 80 yards this season. New England released the veteran prior to the season only to re-sign him when Aaron Hernandez went down with an injury. We could see Branch back with the team later this season. He's unlikely to draw interest from other teams.

Description: A league source told Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe that the Patriots have re-signed receiver Deion Branch.
Insight: Branch doesn't figure to be much of a fantasy option but one has to wonder what this means for Wes Welker's playing time. It was assumed New England would be forced to go back to a Welker-centric offense with Aaron Hernandez out 4-6 weeks but the team still has Julian Edelman and now Branch is back.

Description: The Patriots cut ties with veteran wide receiver Deion Branch on Friday.
Insight: It looked like the 33-year-old was in the clear after New England dumped Jabar Gaffney earlier in the week but apparently Bill Belichick and the coaching staff just didn't see enough out of Branch this preseason. With Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, Brandon Lloyd and Wes Welker already occupying most of the targets on offense, Branch's role in the Patriots' offense would have been pretty limited anyway had he made the team.
6/28/2012 11:11:00 AM
Description: It appears that wideouts Deion Branch and Donte Stallworth are fighting for the final wide receiver roster spot in New England.
Insight: Wes Welker, Brandon Lloyd and Jabar Gaffney are all in front of the winner of this training camp battle. Branch, with a better knowledge of the Patriots system, should be the winner, but he'll have little fantasy value unless multiple injuries strike the New England receiving corps.
3/22/2012 4:21:00 PM
Description: Deion Branch and the Patriots agreed to a one-year deal Thursday.
Insight: Branch returns to the AFC champs for one more year. New England has been loading up on receivers this offseason, already reeling in free agents Brandon Lloyd, Donte' Stallworth and Anthony Gonzalez and franchising Wes Welker. That doesn't leave a whole lot of targets left for Branch, who was mostly a disappointment last season (702 yards, five touchdowns).

Description: Branch's garbage-time touchdown against the Jets Sunday gave him five over his final six outings.
Insight: According to RotoWorld, Branch is due just $2.2 million in 2011, which should certainly make him affordable enough for the Patriots. Assuming they keep him around, he's at least a solid WR3 for fantasy owners. (
1/15/2011 10:04:00 AM
Description: Branch was a limited practice participant this week and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Jets.
Insight: Branch has been limited in practice for a while by a knee ailment, but he has been playing through and got to rest for the past two weeks. He'll be good to go for the Jets game. (
1/1/2011 10:00:00 PM
Description: Branch, a limited practice participant this week, is questionable for Sunday's game because of a knee injury that has bugged him for a while.
Insight: It doesn't seem like it would keep him out of a typical game, but the Patriots' Week 17 game doesn't matter. It would be surprising to see Branch play a significant role against Miami. (
12/26/2010 9:03:00 PM
Description: Branch caught two passes for 25 yards in Sunday's win at Buffalo.
Insight: The Bills have played receivers decently tough all season, but the low numbers for Branch and Wes Welker likely let plenty of fantasy owners down this week. (
12/16/2010 12:05:00 AM
Description: Branch was limited in Wednesday practice because of a knee issue.
Insight: The "issue" didn't affect him at all in snowy Chicago last weekend, so don't fret over it. (
12/13/2010 12:02:00 PM
Description: Branch caught eight passes for 151 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's snowy victory at Chicago.
Insight: Wow. The Patriots' passing game members are matchup- and weather-proof. The only determinant in their weekly value is how many times they decide to target each particular player and where. (
11/27/2010 11:04:00 PM
Description: Branch's two Thanksgiving Day touchdowns doubled his season total.
Insight: Those four scores match or beat his total for every season but one of his nine-year NFL career to date. (

Description: Patriots WR Deion Branch indicated that his hamstring was close to being 100 percent last week. SOURCE: BOSTON GLOBE
Insight: Considering his injury history, don't expect Branch to be 100 percent anytime soon. After his Week-Six homecoming where he caught nine passes for 98 yards and a touchdown, he has just seven receptions for 81 yards and zero scores. He's way off the fantasy radar right now.
11/6/2010 10:04:00 PM
Description: Branch was limited in practice all week by the sprained ankle that has been dogging him for a couple of weeks. He is listed as questionable.
Insight: Branch is expected to play, but he did so last week as well and caught just one ball. Branch doesn't make for a good starting option in Week 9. (
10/31/2010 1:53:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Patriots WR Deion Branch is expected to start in Week 8 vs. Minnesota despite a very sore hamstring.
10/31/2010 2:01:00 AM
Description: Branch was added to the injury report Thursday with a hamstring issue that continued to limit him Friday. He's listed as questionable.
Insight: Branch seems likely to play, but a minor injury plus a poor matchup makes him a fairly unattractive fantasy option this week. (
10/14/2010 12:58:00 PM
Description: Tom Brady may not want to take a haircut but newly acquired Deion Branch willingly did yesterday. Barely 48 hours after returning to the Patriots, Branch agreed to adjust the final year of his contract down from $5.95 million to a heavily incentive- laden deal that significantly lowered his base salary but could still net him around $4 million if he is as productive as he hopes. SOURCE: BOSTON HERALD
Insight: The Patriots will be trying to extend the contract of Wes Welker, who is making $1.9 million this year and is set to be paid $2.15 million in 2011 plus a $250,000 roster bonus and a $100,000 workout bonus for a total of $2.5 million.
10/14/2010 9:33:00 AM
Description: Patriots QB Tom Brady thinks he still has chemistry with WR Deion Branch and considers Branch "an excellent player." SOURCE: BOSTON GLOBE
Insight: Obviously, Brady isn't going to say Branch has lost a step or two since the last time they were teammates, but "excellent" is a bit overboard. First, we don't see Branch pushing Wes Welker or Brandon Tate for a starting job, assuming Tate is announced as Randy Moss' replacement. And we also don't consider Branch to be that much of a fantasy option, despite being familiar with the offense. We would avoid him if we could.
