Description: The Eagles have agreed to a two-year contract with quarterback Dennis Dixon. SOURCE: Chris Mortensen, ESPN
Insight: New Eagles coach Chip Kelly was Oregon's OC in Dixon's senior year before becoming head coach there for four years. Dixon hasn't proven that he has enough talent to compete at the NFL level but he fits into the offense Kelly wants to run so he could see some action in 2013.

Description: Comcast Philly reports that the Eagles are looking into acquiring Baltimore QB Dennis Dixon after the season.
Insight: Dixon played under Chip Kelly at Oregon, so it makes sense that he'd go to the Eagles. With that said, Dixon hasn't thrown a pass in the NFL since 2010 and has only started two NFL games since entering the league in 2008. We doubt he'd have much of an impact on fantasy even if he and Kelly are reunited in Philadelphia.

Description: Dixon has been placed on injured reserve with the sprained knee suffered in Week 2.
Insight: Dixon is not expected to need the whole year to recover, but the roster move saves Pittsburgh from having to dump a quarterback when Ben Roethlisberger returns after this week. (RapidDraft.com)
9/29/2010 9:03:00 PM
Description: There are conflicting reports about whether the Steelers will place Dixon on injured reserve with his knee trouble. One notion is that he'll hit IR upon Ben Roethlisberger's return.
Insight: Either way, Dixon isn't likely to be fantasy relevant the rest of this year. He's still an interesting option for dynasty owners. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: Steelers QB Dennis Dixon is out indefinitely after he tore his left meniscus in Sunday's win over the Titans.
Insight: And that ends Dixon's reign as starter. The team will decide on Charlie Batch or Byron Leftwich to hold the fort until Big Ben comes back. Neither is a great fantasy option.
9/20/2010 2:02:00 PM
Description: Dixon left Sunday's game with a left knee sprain, though ProFootballTalk.com reports that he could've re-entered if the team wanted him to. Dixon fumbled twice and completed four of six passes before being replaced by Charlie Batch.
Insight: Pittsburgh is expected to re-sign Byron Leftwich this week after cutting him for roster space over the weekend. Look for him or Batch to start in Week 3, though coach Mike Tomlin said he doesn't know yet who will be his QB. (RapidDraft.com)
9/19/2010 2:02:00 PM
Description: Steelers QB Dennis Dixon Steelers was carted to the locker room after suffering an undisclosed injury in the first half vs. Tennessee.
Insight: He was replaced by Charlie Batch, who proceeded to fumble his first snap under center. Remember, the Steelers cut Byron Leftwich earlier this week, so if Batch gets hurt, Antwaan Randle El might be the only option they have left.
8/27/2010 7:03:00 PM
Description: Dennis Dixon has seen snaps with the first-team offense this week for the first time since training camp began.
Insight: It seems as though Dixon has a legitimate shot to overtake Byron Leftwich as Ben Roethlisberger?s placeholder. If he does, he will have some marginal fantasy value as he can also make plays with his mobility. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: The Steelers have been giving QB Dennis Dixon snaps with the first-team offense this week for the first time since the beginning of training camp.
SOURCE: PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE
Insight: Dixon has outplayed Byron Leftwich in the preseason and some think he should be the starter in Week One. Dixon knows the offense well and can use his legs to get out of trouble. Some believe Dixon is seeing first-string reps in preparation for goal line work, but the team should consider playing him quite a bit this weekend.
8/18/2010 7:03:00 PM
Description: Even if Dennis Dixon remains behind Byron Leftwich in his bid to start at the beginning of the season with Ben Roethlisberger out, he's likely to play some even as a backup.
Insight: There is still time for Dixon to leapfrog Leftwich before September and, if he keeps up his excellent play, he could do just that. Keep a close eye on this situation. (RapidDraft.com)
8/17/2010 6:08:00 PM
Description: The Steelers haven't ruled QB Dennis Dixon out of the starting quarterback job for Week One.
Insight: Dixon severely outplayed Byron Leftwich in last weekend's preseason game against the Lions. Mike Tomlin said the team will continue to give Dixon more opportunities in the future. Dixon is more athletic and can use his legs to buy more time with the ball, while Leftwich is close to being a statue. The competition could be a bit more even if Dixon outplays Leftwich again this weekend.
8/15/2010 7:54:00 PM
Description: Steelers QB Dennis Dixon finished Saturday night's preseason opener against the Lions 6-of-7 for 128 yards and a touchdown, and also added 6 rushes for 31 yards.
Insight: Dixon has the rest of preseason to convince Pittsburgh that he has what it takes to leapfrog Byron Leftwich. He'll have decent fantasy value if that occurs. (RapidDraft.com)
7/24/2010 5:46:00 PM
Description: Dennis Dixon's agent, Jeff Sperbeck, called out the Steelers' coaching staff for not having Dixon practice more with the first team during offseason workouts
Insight: The team seems set with Byron Leftwich holding the reins until Ben Roethlisberger comes back from his suspension. Dixon's skills may be a little too raw at this point. (sportsbuff.com)
7/23/2010 12:11:00 PM
Description: The Steelers' coaching staff was called out by Jeff Sperbeck, agent for QB Dennis Dixon, for not giving his client more practice time with the first team during offseason workouts.
SOURCE: PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Insight: The decision does merit some criticism. Dixon has been in the league for three years now and offers much more athleticism than Byron Leftwich. But unless Pittsburgh changes it's tune by training camp, Dixon will get the short end of the stick.
3/24/2010 8:09:00 PM
Description: Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said that Dixon could end up backing up Ben Roethlisberger this season.
Insight: That would make Dixon an intriguing propsect. At the rate Big Ben gets hit, he is always at risk for a serious injury and Dixon has a unique blend of athleticism to generate some stats. (SportsBuff.com)
12/4/2009 8:21:00 AM
Description: According to the Pittsburgh-Tribune Review, the Steelers have no plans to use Dixon in a Wildcat formation.
Insight: Dixon's fantasy value is minimal with Big Ben expected back in the lineup on Sunday. (SportsBuff.com)
11/30/2009 10:35:00 PM
Description: Dixon completed 12-of-26 passes for 145 yards with one touchdown and one interception on Sunday against the Ravens. He also rushed three times for 27 yards and a score.
Insight: Dixon played well in place of Big Ben but is likely to be back on the bench next week. (SportsBuff.com)
4/29/2009 9:53:00 AM
Description: Dixon sits third on the Steeler depth chart. He completed his only pass attempt last season in Week 17 for three yards.
Insight: Dixon was a multi-talented QB at Oregon, but lost part of his senior season to a knee injury. The Steelers could use him in a variety of packages, but it would take a lot of injuries to make him fantasy relevant. (SportsBuff.com)
