Description: Dallas quarterback Caleb Hanie was released Monday.
Insight: Brandon Weeden is the handcuff for Cowboys starting QB Tony Romo and would be a viable fantasy option if forced into action.

Description: Cleveland signed quarterback Caleb Hanie on Monday.
Insight: Brandon Weeden and Jason Campbell are both banged up, which would have left Alex Tanney as the only healthy quarterback on the Browns' roster. We won't know until later in the week who the Browns are planning to start Sunday against New England.

Description: According to a report in the Denver Post, Caleb Hanie and not Brock Osweiler is No. 2 on the depth chart to Peyton Manning.
Insight: Hanie or Osweiler's fantasy value is simply as a handcuff to Manning, who before the neck injury, was been an ironman playing every game of his career. If the Broncos install a passing offense for Manning and he is injured, his replacement could have low end fantasy value.

Description: Caleb Hanie has signed a two-year deal with the Broncos.
Insight: With this signing, Hanie has officially relinquished any fantasy value he once had. Hanie won't see the field this season unless the Broncos are up by about 100, and even then, we'd still be a little surprised to see Peyton Manning come out of the game.

Description: During his press conference, Bears HC Lovie Smith confirmed Jay Cutler's fractured thumb and announced Caleb Hanie will be the team's new starting QB.
Insight: He also confirmed they will be looking for a veteran QB to add to the roster to fill Cutler's spot. Though he didn't mention him by name, several sources have said the Bears will reach out to Marc Bulger because he knows Mike Martz's offense. This news is good news for Matt Forte and Marion Barber owners as Smith said they will run the football more and likely be looking for his team to make plays in the short passing game. Hello screen pass!!

Description: According to Bears GM Jerry Angelo, QB Caleb Hanie's stock "went up in our eyes" after his performance against the Packers.
Insight: Set for restricted free agency, Hanie is expected to be tendered to keep him around as Jay Cutler's backup in 2011.
1/27/2011 12:15:00 PM
Description: If the Bears seriously want to bring back restricted free agent QB Caleb Hanie, they will need to extend him a second-round tender.
SOURCE: CHICAGO TRIBUNE
Insight: Hanie proved how valuable he is as Jay Cutler's backup after he almost led the Bears to a come-from-behind win against the Packers in the NFC Championship game. His tender will be in the $2 million range.

Description: CSN Chicago.com reports Hanie will be the Bears' No. 2 quarterback and would start Sunday against the Seahawks if Jay Cutler (concussion) can't play.
Insight: Hanie is a better choice than Todd Collins to replace Cutler, which admittedly is not saying much. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: ESPN Chicago.com reports the Bears are expected to demote Hanie to third-string after Monday's signing of Todd Collins.
Insight: Hanie is dealing with a shoulder injury, and is not expected to be ready until Week 1. Collins worked in a system similar to Mike Martz's in Kansas City under Dick Vermeil. (Rapid Draft.com)
8/16/2010 2:36:00 PM
Description: Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports, via Twitter, that MRI results confirmed Hanie (shoulder) will not need surgery on his right shoulder.
Insight: It seems that Hanie will not miss much time with the injury, and he does not appear concerned with losing the job as Jay Cutler's backup. (Rapid Draft.com)

Description: ESPN.com reports the Bears are content to head into the season with Hanie as their No. 2 quarterback.
Insight: The Bears had considered signing Marc Bulger to be Jay Cutler's backup, but Hanie's work in the offseason program convinced the team to roll with him. (SportsBuff.com)
