Jacksonville, FL (Sports Network) - Michael Vick completed 17-of-31 passes
for 291 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score, as Philadelphia
pulled away from Jacksonville, 28-3, at EverBank Stadium.
Jeremy Maclin caught four passes for 83 yards and two scores, and DeSean
Jackson made five grabs for 153 yards and a score, as the Eagles (2-1) beat
the Jaguars (1-2) for the first time in four all-time meetings.
David Garrard completed 13-of-30 throws for 105 yards under sustained pressure
all game and was sacked six times, while Maurice Jones-Drew carried 22 times
for 88 yards for the hosts, who have started 1-2 for a third straight season.
Vick has guided the Eagles to wins in back-to-back games as the starter and
will square off against the Washington Redskins and player he replaced,
Donovan McNabb, next week. Kevin Kolb had been given the starting job after
McNabb was traded in April but lost it due to a concussion suffered in Week 1
against Green Bay and the stellar play of Vick against the Packers and Lions.
"I thought [Vick] had a good day, but he can't do that all by himself, as far
as guys up front and the guys around him [having good games as well]," Eagles
head coach Andy Reid said. "I was proud of the guys and their effort."
The Birds struck first on a 61-yard catch and run by Jackson, who recorded
his ninth career touchdown of 50 yards-or-more. The electrifying wideout
caught a pass inside the Jags' 35 and raced untouched down the right sideline
to finish off a six-play, 71-yard drive with 5:25 left in the first quarter.
Jacksonville managed its only points six minutes into the second quarter on
Josh Scobee's 51-yard field goal that capped off an eight-play, 18-yard drive.
Vick found Maclin open in the end zone from 16 yards away with four ticks left
in the half to put the visitors ahead 14-3. It capped a seven-play, 53-yard
drive that took 1:33 and featured a 21-yard connection between Vick and tight
end Brent Celek and a 14-yard completion to Maclin two plays before the score.
Asante Samuel picked off Garrard in the third and brought the ball back to the
Jags' 30, but an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for excessive celebration on
Ellis Hobbs moved the ball back to the 45.
However, Vick was undaunted, as on the very next play he threaded a pass to
Maclin, who made the catch in stride at the 15 and went untouched down the
left sideline into the end zone to give the Eagles a 21-3 lead with just under
5 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter.
The Jags went three and out on their next possession and the Eagles marched
72 yards down the field to take a 28-3 lead on Vick's 17-yard scoring dash
with 17 seconds remaining in the period. Vick completed passes to Jackson for
42 yards and Celek for 15 during the six play march.
The Jags last gasp ended just over a minute into the final stanza when they
failed to convert on 4th-and-6 from the Eagles' 18.
"We have to come back next week and focus...and never have a performance like
this again," Garrard said. "We just didn't play well at all, plain and
