Insight: He's missed the past three weeks with a strained forearm. With Sean Doolittle closing, Cook (0-1, 2.92 ERA) is a fantasy non-factor.

Insight: Cook posted a sub-three ERA for the second year in a row in 2013. He'll be productive again in 2014, though we wouldn't expect him to see many save opportunities with Jim Johnson pitching the ninth inning.

Description: Athletics reliever Ryan Cook has been removed from the role temporarily, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Insight: A's manager Bob Melvin said he wants to get Cook a clean inning in some low-pressure situations before he puts him back in the closer role. Melvin emphasized that Cook has not lose the job.

Description: Athletics closer Ryan Cook picked up a save Wednesday coming off two blown chances, but his performance wasn't exactly stellar. Cook allowed two runs with a three run lead before closing the door.
Insight: Cook has allowed nine earned runs in his last eight innings and has a tenuous hold on Oakland's closer role.

Description: Athletics manager Bob Melvin said he would "continue to monitor" the closing situation after current ninth inning man Ryan Cook blew a save for the second straight game and for the fourth time in his last five chances Saturday, according to Joe Stiglich of the Bay Area News Group.
Insight: Cook has allowed four homers in his last seven appearances after allowing none in his first 39. Oakland won each game the previous three times Cook blew a save but it lost 3-1 to Toronto Saturday after taking a 1-0 lead into the ninth. If he can't turn it around in his next few appearances we may see a committee situation break out in Oakland.

Description: Oakland reliever Ryan Cook has thrown two scoreless innings and picked up two saves in the two appearances since he allowed four runs and blew a save on June 22.
Insight: Cook tossed a perfect ninth inning Wednesday against Seattle to earn his sixth save of the season. June 22 should be nothing more than a minor hiccup for the right-hander.

Description: Oakland reliever Ryan Cook picked up his first career save Tuesday against Colorado.
Insight: Cook walked a batter and allowed a hit but he also struck out two. The right-hander is expected to take over closing duties for the Athletics, even though Oakland manager Bob Melvin said that he is going to use a committee. On the year, Cook has an ERA of 0.67 and a WHIP of 0.89. He's allowed just eight hits in 27 innings and is clearly the Oakland reliever to own.
