Description: Twins starter Nick Blackburn's ERA rose to 7.99 after he allowed eight earned runs on 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings against the White Sox Wednesday.
Insight: It's amazing the Twins keep trotting this guy out there. He's made 15 starts this season despite his Hall of Shame performance. Make sure you get your fantasy hitters in the lineup when Blackburn is on the mound.
7/19/2012 10:33:00 AM
Description: Nick Blackburn has been recalled from Triple-A Rochester. He'll start Friday night's game versus the Royals.
Insight: Blackburn crashed and burned in his first 13 starts of the year for the Twins (4-5, 8.10 ERA) but he's fared much better since his demotion to Triple-A (2-0, 2.57 in four starts for Rochester). Given his mediocre track record over the past few seasons, we don't have a ton of confidence in the 30-year-old righthander heading into Friday's start in Kansas City.

Description: Minnesota starter Nick Blackburn may have won three of his last four starts, but don't be blinded by the wins, he's not pitching well.
Insight: The 3-0 record with a no-decision in his last four starts comes with a 6.00 ERA and 1.666 WHIP. He's also recorded just seven strikeouts in his last 21 innings pitched.
6/12/2012 11:31:00 AM
Description: Minnesota starter Nick Blackburn may have won two of his last three starts, but don't be blinded by the wins, he's not pitching well.
Insight: The 2-0 record with a no-decision in his last three starts is balanced by a 9.75 ERA and 2.00 WHIP.
6/4/2012 7:31:00 PM
Description: Minnesota starter Nick Blackburn has been activated from the 15-day DL. He had been out since mid-May with a strained left quad.
Insight: He'll take the injured Carl Pavano's spot on the Twins' active roster. Blackburn (1-4, 8.37 ERA) will take the mound Wednesday against Kansas City.
5/17/2012 1:44:00 PM
Description: Nick Blackburn is headed for the DL. Blackburn has a strained left quad.
Insight: That might explain why Blackburn was only able to last two innings Wednesday against the Tigers, allowing six hits and six earned runs in the process. Blackburn has been terrible this season, compiling an 8.37 ERA in his seven starts. Opponents are hitting .333 against Blackburn in 2012.
4/22/2012 4:57:00 PM
Description: According to Phil Mackey of ESPN Radio, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Nick Blackburn threw an "all-out" bullpen session on Sunday and "doesn't feel a thing" in his stiff shoulder. He'll make his next start on Tuesday.
Insight: That's good news if you're relying on Blackburn, but hopefully the group of those depending on the Twins righty for fantasy production consists only of his close friends and family. Stay away from him.
4/16/2012 5:41:00 PM
Description: Nick Blackburn has been ruled out for his next schedule start. Blackburn exited the game on Saturday with a stiff right shoulder.
Insight: Blackburn will probably miss just the one start, returning to the Minnesota rotation sometime early next week. Blackburn has never notched more than 98 strikeouts in a season and his career-high in wins is only 11 so it would be a stretch to say that Blackburn is anything more than an average fantasy starting pitcher.
4/10/2011 5:59:00 AM
Description: Nick Blackburn was the hard luck loser yesterday, taking a loss after allowing just one unearned run over six innings.
Insight: Blackburn's low strikeout rate is going to make him a poor option in shallow leagues but he is pitching well (0.77 ERA) so he could be useful in deeper leagues this season, especially in good matchups.
3/30/2011 5:12:00 AM
Description: Nick Blackburn threw four scoreless innings last night and ends spring training with a 1.73 ERA.
Insight: He looked great this spring and was solid down the stretch last season. He should be owned in deeper mixed leagues and can be rotated based on matchups.
3/5/2011 7:55:00 PM
Description: The Twins view Nick Blackburn as part of their starting rotation, meaning that Kevin Slowey and Scott Baker are battling for the final spot.
SOURCE: KELLY THESIER
Insight: Our money is on Baker, with Slowey either going to the bullpen or leaving via a trade. It's actually surprising that Brian Duensing and Blackburn have passed Baker on the depth chart.
