Description: Red Sox starter Jake Peavy (finger) may not be ready in time for the start of the regular season, according to mlb.com.
Insight: Peavy suffered a deep laceration on his left index finger with a fishing knife. He was able to throw on Tuesday but hasn't been cleared to put his glove on. "We've got an opportunity to keep his arm moving, keep him in shape," said manager John Farrell. "He'll stretch a little bit with long toss today and the plan is for him to throw a bullpen tomorrow, without a glove. The precaution we have to take right now is making sure he doesn't perspire too much that may cause bacteria or whatever to get into the incision that's still closing up."

Insight: Peavy was scratched from a Grapefruit League start after cutting his finger with a fishing knife. According to Boston manager John Farrell, Peavy "almost cut through his finger," so he may have to miss more than one start. The good news is that the injury was to his non-throwing hand. "The fact is, we can pad that index finger to his glove hand," Farrell said. "It's nowhere near the impact had it been the other hand."

Description: Boston righthander Jake Peavy left spring training on Friday with both his wrist and ring finger wrapped in a bandage, according to Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe.
Insight: Peavy hasn't been a fantasy stud since 2007, though he did pitch well last season, going 12-5 with 121 Ks in 144 2/3 IP. This injury shouldn't sideline him for more than a day or two.

Description: Boston starter Jake Peavy struggled in a no-decision Saturday versus St. Louis.
Insight: Peavy allowed six hits and two earned runs in just four innings of work. He seemed to have no trust at all in his fastball, opting mostly for breaking pitches after barely surviving a two-run, four-hit first inning. As shaky as Peavy looked in the outing, it could have been much worse. Somehow the righthander was able to navigate his way out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the fourth inning. He's scheduled to start Game 7 if the series goes that far though his last two performances have done little to inspire confidence.

Description: According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the White Sox are telling teams that they will keep Jake Peavy and attempt to build around him.
Insight: Olney suggests that the White Sox might just be trying to apply more leverage in trade talks. Peavy would be the best pitcher available at the trade deadline. He's 8-4 with a 4.28 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP this season.
7/26/2013 8:31:00 PM
Description: Gordon Edes from ESPN Boston is hearing that the Red Sox are the favorites to land White Sox starter Jake Peavy at the trade deadline.
Insight: The Red Sox are looking to add another starter and Peavy might be the best one available. Will Middlebrooks (15 homers for Boston in 2012) could be trade bait.

7/21/2013 1:58:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Red Sox have been scouting White Sox righthander Jake Peavy.
Insight: With Clay Buchholz still dealing with shoulder issues and Jon Lester struggling, Boston could be in the market for a starter. Peavy wouldn't come cheap but if the Red Sox are looking to win the pennant in 2013, he might be worth the steep asking price. If the Red Sox can't land Peavy in a trade, they might look at other options including Matt Garza and Bud Norris.
7/19/2013 6:25:00 PM
Description: White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy (rib) will start Saturday against the Braves.
Insight: The White Sox activated Peavy (6-4, 4.30 ERA) from the 15-day disabled list Friday. The right-hander hasn't started since June 4 due to a fractured rib. He was 6-2 with a 2.97 ERA after May 25, but allowed 12 runs on 15 hits over 6 2/3 innings in his last two starts before the injury.
7/15/2013 12:43:00 PM
Description: White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy is expected to make a start this weekend after his latest successful rehab start.
Insight: Peavy is 6-4 with a 4.30 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 66 strikeouts in 67 IP over 11 starts this season. He's a candidate to be traded before the July 31 deadline. If he lands with a team that scores runs he could certainly help fantasy owners in the wins category.
7/14/2013 4:10:00 PM
Description: White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy allowed one run over five innings in his first rehab start Sunday with Double-A Birmingham.
