Description: Former closer Jim Johnson has signed a minor league deal with the Detroit Tigers.
Insight: Johnson was horrible in Oakland (4-2, 7.14 ERA, 2.058 WHIP), but hopes to find himself in the minors. Even if he remembers the form that saw him rack up 101 saves from 2012-13, he'll have to wait in line behind Joe Nathan and Joakim Soria.

Description: Former closer Jim Johnson threw for the Orioles Monday and hopes to sign a minor league deal.
Insight: Johnson was horrible in Oakland (4-2, 7.14 ERA, 2.058 WHIP), but hopes that returning to where he had success can extend his career. Johnson earned 101 saves with a 2.72 ERA and 1.151 WHIP in Baltimore from 2012-13.

Description: According to Jane Lee of mlb.com, Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Jim Johnson could re-enter the ninth-inning mix with Luke Gregorson and Sean Doolittle
Insight: Johnson has thrown 6 2/3 scoreless innings with six Ks and a 1.05 WHIP since he was removed from the closer role. Johnson is making $10 million this season so fantasy owners should expect him to get the role back if he continues to pitch well.

Description: Athletics closer Jim Johnson has been designated for assignment.
Insight: Johnson was making big dollars and is a rare Billy Beane bad decision. Johnson was 4-2 with a 6.92 ERA and 2.06 WHIP. Despite the horrible numbers it wasn't that long ago that he was a top closer and someone will likely take a chance on him.

Description: Athletics closer Jim Johnson is out as the Oakland's closer. He had another rocky outing Wednesday afternoon, allowing two hits, two walks and two earned runs in 1/3 of an inning.
Insight: Luke Gregerson and Ryan Cook are the likely next in line for saves, but it appears to be a closer-by-committee until someone grabs the ring and runs with it.

Description: Athletics closer Jim Johnson had another rocky outing Wednesday afternoon, allowing two hits, two walks and two earned runs in 1/3 of an inning.
Insight: The Athletics had a 4-2 lead going into the ninth, but Johnson coughed it up. The only reason he didn't get a blown save is because the A's removed him when it was still 4-3, though the runners on base still belonged to him. He has walked six batters and allowed nine hits and seven earned runs in 3 1/3 innings this season. Luke Gregerson is likely next in line for saves.

Description: A's closer Jim Johnson received a vote of confidence from manager Bob Melvin after Wednesday night's blown save, according to Susan Slusser of the sfgate.com.
Insight: Johnson has given up five runs in two appearances, taking a loss on Monday and blowing the save on Wednesday night. The truth is they have no other good options.

Description: The A's have acquired closer Jim Johnson in a trade with Baltimore.
Insight: The Orioles will receive second baseman Jemile Weeks. No player in the majors has more saves than Johnson over the last two seasons (101 saves in 113 chances). He's replacing Grant Balfour, who became a free agent after the season.

Description: Orioles closer Jim Johnson appears to be on the Dodgers' radar. SOURCE: Ken Rosenthal, Fox Sports
Insight: It's unlikely the O's will be able to keep Johnson when he hits free agency in 2015 so they're looking to trade him now. It's unknown if the Dodgers would ask Johnson to close or have him setup ahead of current closer Kenley Jansen.

Description: Baltimore closer Jim Johnson logged his 50th save Sunday in a win against the Red Sox.
Insight: He's the first closer to reach 50 saves in back-to-back seasons since Eric Gagne did it for the Dodgers in 2002 and 2003. It wasn't always pretty. Johnson did blow nine save chances this season. But more often than not, Johnson took care of business. Look for the big righthander to return to the Orioles in 2014.

Description: Orioles manager Buck Showalter didn't stand by Jim Johnson as his closer when asked Friday, according to Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com.
Insight: "We have a lot of options and he's one of them," Showalter said. Johnson has blown three straight save chances.
7/5/2013 10:32:00 PM
Description: Orioles closer Jim Johnson blew another save on Friday night, his sixth of the season, wasting a quality start from Miguel Gonzalez.
Insight: Johnson appeared to be over the struggles he went through when he blew four saves and allowed 12 earned runs in five innings from May 14 to May 26, but has now blown a save in two of his last four outings.
6/6/2013 9:21:00 PM
Description: Orioles closer Jim Johnson has gone 5-for-5 in save chances and allowed just two men to reach base over his last five appearances.

5/26/2013 4:30:00 PM
Description: Orioles closer Jim Johnson continues to struggle giving up four runs in the ninth inning on Sunday in a 6-5 loss to the Blue Jays.
Insight: Johnson has blown four saves in his last six appearances after a break out season in 2012 when he registered with a major-league leading 51 saves. If the Orioles had another good option, they would probably let Johnson sit for a couple games, but we don't see one on their current roster.
5/7/2013 10:36:00 PM
Description: Orioles closer Jim Johnson is 12-for-12 in save chances and has allowed two earned runs in 17 innings this season.
Insight: Johnson broke out with a major-league leading 51 saves and a 2.49 ERA last year and there hasn't been any regression. He's one of the top closers you can own.
2/9/2013 11:00:00 AM
Description: American League saves leader Jim Johnson has agreed to a one-year, $6.5 million deal to remain with the Orioles.
Insight: The deal means that the two sides won't need to get an arbitrator involved. Fresh off a breakout 2012 campaign (2.49 ERA, major-league leading 51 saves in 54 chances), Johnson should be one of the top closers in fantasy this season.
10/11/2012 10:15:00 AM
Description: Baltimore closer Jim Johnson coughed up the lead Wednesday night by allowing a pinch-hit homer to Yankees DH Raul Ibanez in the bottom of the ninth.
Insight: It was Johnson's second subpar outing of the postseason. The American League saves leader will try to redeem himself Thursday as the Orioles attempt to force a Game 5.
10/4/2012 11:04:00 AM
Description: Baltimore closer Jim Johnson finished the 2012 season as the major league's saves leader, collecting 51 saves in 54 opportunities.
Insight: Johnson has been especially dominant as of late, holding opponents scoreless over his last 11 appearances. His 51 saves are the most by any pitcher in the major leagues since 2008 when Angels righthander Francisco Rodriguez (now on Milwaukee) finished the season with a league-best 62 saves in 69 chances.
6/5/2012 10:56:00 PM
Description: Orioles closer Jim Johnson blew his first save of the season in 18 chances Tuesday against Boston. Johnson allowed a game-tying two-run blast to Jarrod Saltalamacchia in the ninth.
Insight: The Orioles scored two in the top of the 10th and Johnson stayed in to close out Boston in the bottom of the frame to earn his first win of the season, so it wasn't a total loss for fantasy owners. The right-hander has excelled in his first season as closer, but he was due for a hiccup. Nobody's perfect.
