Description: San Diego left fielder Mark Kotsay has decided to retire at the end of the season. SOURCE: San Diego Union-Tribune
Insight: While never a star, Kotsay enjoyed a productive career as a role player for several teams including the Marlins, Padres, Red Sox and A's. His best season was probably in 2004 when he hit .314 with 15 homers for Oakland. In his prime, Kotsay was also an excellent defensive player with a penchant for gunning down runners at home plate.

Description: Padres outfielder Mark Kotsay only gets a spot start every now and then, but Friday would be the spot as he's a career .615 hitter (8-for-13) versus Miami hurler Ricky Nolasco.
Insight: Kotsay only has 82 at-bats all season, mainly in a pinch hitting role, but could find himself in Wednesday's starting lineup because of the favorable matchup. If he is, he could be worth a flier.

Description: Scott Bair from the Associated Press is reporting that Padres outfielder Mark Kotsay has been battling a strained hamstring.

Description: Mark Kotsay (strained calf) has been activated from the disabled list.
Insight: Kotsay (.270, 3 HRs, 31 RBIs in 2011) could see some fairly regular playing time in the outfield while Carlos Quentin is out, but once Quentin's knee heals, Kotsay's fantasy value should be pretty minimal.

Description: Padres outfielder Mark Kotsay has a strained calf and will start the season on the disabled list.
Insight: The Padres have lost both Kotsay and Carlos Quentin and it has opened up an opportunity for Jeremy Hermida to make the San Diego Opening Day roster and start some games. It appears that the Padres outfield will consist of Cameron Maybin, Will Venable, Chris Denorfia and Hermida.

Description: Mark Kotsay has a strained calf. No decision has been made, but it's possible that he could start the season on the DL.
Insight: The Padres have certainly had trouble keeping their outfielders healthy this spring with Carlos Quentin going down with a knee injury and now Kotsay on the shelf with a bad calf. Kyle Blanks (.229, 7 HRs, 26 RBIs in 55 games last season) should get a shot in left field until Kotsay and Quentin are fully healed.
