Description: Lefthander Jonathan Sanchez has signed a minor league deal with the Cubs. SOURCE: Chicago Tribune
Insight: He'll try to make the team out of spring training. Sanchez has now played with five teams in the last three years. His last productive season came in 2010 when he logged 13 victories with a 3.07 ERA in 33 starts for San Francisco.

Description: The Pirates cut ties with lefthander Jonathan Sanchez on Wednesday.
Insight: Sanchez (0-3, 11.85 ERA in five appearances) was DFA'd last week and predictably, no one was interested. His career is in a downward spiral right now and we don't expect to see him on a big league roster again anytime soon.

Description: Pittsburgh southpaw Jonathan Sanchez is facing a six-game ban for beaning Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig Friday night in St. Louis. SOURCE: Michael Sanserino, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Insight: As Friday's disastrous outing demonstrated (he didn't record an out before his ejection), Sanchez (0-3, 12.71 ERA) is in free-fall mode right now. Keep him far, far away from your fantasy team.
4/10/2013 8:34:00 PM
Description: Pirates left-hander Jonathan Sanchez was rocked for nine runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings Wednesday afternoon against the Diamondbacks. He walked four and gave up two homers.
Insight: Sanchez was the worst pitcher in baseball last season with the Royals and Rockies. He gave up 82 hits, 11 homers and 58 earned runs and walked 53 batters in 64 2/3 innings. He shouldn't get near any fantasy rosters this season.
7/22/2012 2:59:00 PM
Description: Lefthander Jonathan Sanchez will make his Colorado debut Monday night against Arizona. Sanchez was acquired from Kansas City in a trade earlier this week, shortly after he was designated for assignment. The Royals received righthander Jeremy Guthrie in the trade.
Insight: The Rockies are pretty desperate for pitching but Sanchez, who was 1-6 with an ERA north of seven in 12 appearances for Kansas City earlier in the year, probably isn't the solution. Don't expect this change of scenery to propel Sanchez any higher in the fantasy rankings as Coors Field has always been brutal on pitchers.
7/17/2012 7:47:00 PM
Description: Kansas City lefthander Jonathan Sanchez's latest poor outing has him designated for assignment.
Insight: Sanchez (1-6, 7.76 ERA) once threw a no-hitter as a member of the San Francisco Giants but this year he's been a disaster. In his last nine starts, Sanchez is 0-6 with an 8.19 ERA and 34 walks. We'll wait to see if Sanchez accepts an assignment to the minor leagues or if he decides to look for a spot on another team. Either way, his fantasy value is nonexistent right now.
7/16/2012 11:40:00 PM
Description: Royals starter Jonathan Sanchez served up two homers, seven hits and seven earned runs in 1 1/3 innings Monday against the Mariners as his ERA skyrocketed to 7.76.
Insight: Sanchez (1-6) usually struggles with control but he's been extremely hittable this season as well. Fantasy owners shouldn't go anywhere near this guy.
6/10/2012 3:51:00 PM
Description: Royals starter Jonathan Sanchez is expected to come off the disabled list some time later this week. Sanchez has been on the DL for over a month because of biceps tendinitis.
Insight: Sanchez tossed five innings Friday at Triple-A Omaha without encountering any setbacks so it looks like he's ready to make the jump back into major league action. Sanchez has only made six starts this season, compiling a 1-2 record and a 6.75 ERA.
5/9/2012 7:34:00 PM
Description: Jonathan Sanchez has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. He's suffering from left bicep tendinitis.
Insight: Sanchez must have tweaked something in Monday night's loss to the Red Sox. He wasn't very good in that outing (3 IP, 6 H, 6 ERs, 3 BBs) and that seems to be the theme with Sanchez this season. He is 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA through six starts in 2012.
5/9/2012 1:39:00 PM
Description: Jonathan Sanchez is currently dealing with biceps tendonitis, according to Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star.
Insight: Sanchez has 22 walks in 25 1/3 innings and should only be owned in the deepest of leagues.
4/24/2012 10:07:00 PM
Description: Kansas City SP Jonathan Sanchez has struggled mightily with his new team. On Tuesday, his control issues continued, as he walked seven in 4 2/3 innings against the Indians. Sanchez gave up four runs on four hits with five strikeouts in addition to the seven free passes.
Insight: Sanchez can't throw a strike consistently, and it is killing him this season. In four starts, he has walked 17 batters in 17 1/3 innings. He's always struggled with his control, but not to this extent. In his previous three seasons, Sanchez has managed to hide his control problems a bit by allowing only 357 hits in 458 innings. This season, he's compounded the issue by allowing more than a hit per inning. You can safely drop him and look for a better option.
8/2/2011 11:48:00 AM
Description: San Francisco Giants lefthander Jonathan Sanchez has been activated from the disabled list and will start on Friday.
Insight: Sanchez has a career record of 3-1 with an ERA of 2.86 against the Phillies.
4/9/2011 7:06:00 AM
Description: Giants SP Jonathan Sanchez allowed one run in 5 innings of work, giving up 4 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 7.
Insight: Sanchez was close to 100 pitches after just 5 innings; because he does get a bunch of K's he tends to reach the higher pitch counts more quickly, which is important to remember in points leagues.
3/18/2011 6:18:00 AM
Description: Jonathan Sanchez allowed just one hit over six innings yesterday.
Insight: He has lights out stuff and could be an outstanding starter if he could harness his command and be more consistent from start-to-start. However, he has been unable to do that in several seasons at the major league level in his career.
2/25/2011 11:39:00 AM
Description: Manager Bruce Bochy has announced SP Jonathan Sanchez will be the #2 pitcher in the rotation.
SOURCE: San Francisco Chronicle
Insight: This is a good baseball move, as it keeps the Giants from having three lefties in a row in their rotation. Sanchex walks a ton of batters but he strikes out a ton, as well. If his control is off he can get blasted, which makes him an adventure in points leagues.
10/31/2010 5:59:00 AM
Description: Jonathan Sanchez allowed two home runs and gave up four runs over 4 2/3 innings last night.
Insight: Just as he was all season, Sanchez has been at both extremes in the playoffs. If he pitches game seven he could shut out Texas or could get lit up again depending on his fastball control.
10/24/2010 7:15:00 AM
Description: Giants SP Jonathan Sanchez lasted just 2 innings against the Phillies in Game 6. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, 2 walks; he also had a wild pitch.
Insight: Manager Bruce Bochy put a lot of faith in his bullpen and it paid off. Expect Sanchez to rebound in his next outing against Texas.
10/18/2010 5:05:00 AM
Description: Jonathan Sanchez gave up three runs (two earned) in six-plus innings last night to take the loss in game two.
Insight: He got into trouble with walks in the first inning which led to the game's first run. Sanchez can dominate with the best of them but he needs to improve his control in order to reach the next level.
10/13/2010 7:17:00 PM
Description: The Giants have flipped a couple starters, using Jonathan Sanchez in game two and Matt Cain in game three of the NLCS.

10/11/2010 4:35:00 AM
Description: Jonathan Sanchez struck out 11 Braves yesterday while allowing one run over 7 1/3 innings in Atlanta yesterday.
Insight: The Giants' ability to put a good pitcher on the mound every game is going to make them a tough out in the playoffs no matter who they face. Sanchez is very underrated as a third starter.
