Description: Baltimore DH Jim Thome hit a ground-rule double in the 12th inning Saturday to break a 6-6 tie as the Orioles went on to beat Boston by a score of 9-6.
Insight: With the win, the Orioles improved to an astonishing 16-0 in extra innings this season. The double was Thome's only hit of the game.

7/31/2012 7:10:00 PM
Description: Baltimore DH Jim Thome has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a herniated disk.
Insight: Thome has just two homers in 79 plate appearances since joining the Orioles, and he'll likely miss the next few weeks if not longer. Fantasy owners can release the veteran.

7/30/2012 6:52:00 PM
Description: Baltimore DH Jim Thome is still suffering from neck spasms. He'll miss his third game in a row Monday night when the Orioles take on the Yankees.
Insight: Thome (.252, 7 HRs, 21 RBIs) is headed back to Baltimore to get his neck looked at, so he probably won't be available for the rest of this series.

7/21/2012 10:51:00 PM
Description: Orioles DH Jim Thome homered for the second straight game Saturday against the Cleveland Indians, one of his former teams.
Insight: Thome is batting .275 with two homers and five RBIs in 13 games as a member of the Orioles. He has seven homers in 113 at-bats overall.

7/20/2012 10:40:00 PM
Description: Orioles DH Jim Thome blasted home run No. 610 of his career Friday night, moving him ahead of Sammy Sosa and into sole possession of seventh place on the all-time home run list.
Insight: The home run was Thome's sixth of the season and his first as a member of the Orioles.

7/14/2012 10:23:00 AM
Description: Orioles DH Jim Thome is a career .462 hitter (6-for-13) in his matchups with Detroit hurler Max Scherzer.
Insight: Thome is batting just .200 since being traded to Baltimore and has yet to produce an extra base hit. Today could be the day.

7/3/2012 10:10:00 AM
Description: Orioles DH Jim Thome is one of the rare hitters with a history of success against Seattle ace Felix Hernandez. He's a career .500 hitter (8-for-16) in their matchups with three homers and seven RBI.
Insight: Thome has yet to get it going since being traded from Philadelphia to Baltimore, but this matchup might be just the thing to get him started.

7/1/2012 12:54:00 PM
Description: Orioles DH Jim Thome is in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale with Cleveland. He'll DH and bat fifth.
Insight: Thome (.242, 5 HRs, 15 RBIs) was mostly limited to pinch-hitting duties as a member of the Phillies earlier in the season but now that he's in the American League, we'd expect him to receive pretty regular playing time at the DH position.

6/30/2012 8:25:00 PM
Description: First baseman/DH Jim Thome has been traded to the Orioles for minor leaguers Kyle Simon and Gabriel Lino.
Insight: Thome rarely plays first base anymore now that he's in his forties so look for his fantasy value to increase now that he can be in the lineup everyday as a full-time DH. He was batting .242 with five homers and 15 RBIs for the Phillies before getting traded.

6/28/2012 7:00:00 PM
Description: The Phillies have made Jim Thome available to American League teams, according to ESPN's Jayson Stark.
Insight: Stark said via Twitter that two AL clubs told him that Thome is available. He would be someone to add in mixed leagues if he could lock down a starting DH job with an AL team. The future Hall of Famer hit four homers and drove in 14 runs in a nine-game stint as Philadelphia's designated hitter in AL parks earlier this month.

6/23/2012 10:08:00 PM
Description: Saturday was a special day for Phillies first baseman Jim Thome even though he didn't start. Thome pinch-hit in the bottom of the ninth inning and hit an opposite-field, walk-off homer after Jonathan Papelbon blew his first save with the team. The home run tied Thome with Sammy Sosa for seventh place on the all-time home run list with 609 and gave him the lead for most game-winning homers in major league history with 13.
Insight: It also earned him $5,000 from Papelbon, who said he promised Thome the money while he was in the on deck circle if he could hit one out. Thome doesn't have any fantasy value right now because he can't play the field, but if an American League team acquires him to be its everyday DH, he'll be someone to grab. He hit four home runs last week when Philadelphia was playing in American League parks.

6/14/2012 11:00:00 PM
Description: Phillies first baseman Jim Thome went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer Thursday against Minnesota, No. 607 of his career.
Insight: Thome has enjoyed Interleague Play, as it's allowed him to DH for Philadelphia. He clearly can still put a charge into the ball, as indicated by his .458 batting average, three homers and 11 RBIs in the last six games, all at American League ballparks. However, he'll go back to pinch-hitting and starting occasionally once the Phillies go back home.

6/6/2012 2:40:00 PM
Description: Phillies first baseman Jim Thome has been activated from the 15-day disabled list.
Insight: Thome was batting just .111 before the April injury. Don't expect him to be an everyday player, he's proven he can't hold up health-wise. He should return to the pinch hit role and DH during interleague play that was originally expected of him.

5/1/2012 3:30:00 PM
Description: Phillies first baseman Jim Thome is expected to miss Tuesday's game against Atlanta.
Insight: Thome is batting just .111 this season without a home run or RBI and given that he's not an everyday player the 40-year-old with a bad back has little fantasy value.

4/28/2012 9:13:00 PM
Description: Jim Thome left the game in the fifth inning Saturday because of a stiff back.
Insight: Thome (.111) actually started at first base Saturday, something that in his old age (he's 41) he isn't asked to do very often. Ty Wigginton (.314, 2 HRs, 7 RBIs) took Thome's place in the lineup after he exited and really, he's the Phillies' best option at first base until Ryan Howard comes back.

3/24/2012 10:00:00 AM
Description: Jim Thome played seven innings at first base on Thursday in a minor league game.
Insight: Thome was expected to be a pinch hitter, DH in American League cities, and veteran bench presence, but the large number of injuries to the Phillies roster, particularly the infield, could force him to play some first base this season. He still has almost no fantasy value.

Description: With the game tied and his team in desperate need of a jolt, Twins DH Jim Thome hit his 596th home run to lift Minnesota to a 4-3 victory over the Royals Sunday. SOURCE: YAHOO SPORTS
Insight: Thome's tiebreaking three-run drive off Kansas City's Felipe Paulino soared into the upper deck in right-center field, leaving him four shy of becoming the eighth player to hit 600 home runs. 'It's always special,' Thome said. 'That feeling you want to kind of last forever. It went out, it put us ahead. And that's No. 1.'

Description: Twins designated hitter Jim Thome was scratched from Tuesday night's lineup against the Chicago White Sox because of a sore oblique muscle. SOURCE: Yahoo Sports
Insight: Consider Thome to be day-to-day.

Description: Jim Thome will take swings in the cage today but he is listed as day-to-day as he still suffers from an oblique strain. SOURCE: Joe Christensen on Twitter
Insight: He could be back on Friday, but his bat has been cold for most of April, until the three games prior to his injury. He's got some pop, but his limited at-bats make him valuable in deeper mixed leagues only.

2/21/2011 10:18:00 AM
Description: After suffering from plantar fasciitis for the last two season, Twins DH Jim Thome is finally healthy. "I could do a lot more things this winter than I normally have," he said. "It felt great. I got to work out and stay active. It was a great winter." SOURCE: St. Paul Pioneer Press
Insight: Thome was much better against righties last season, so don't be surprised if the Twins use him as part of a platoon. Because of his limited positional eligibility, he is best used in AL-only leagues.
