Description: The Marlins have parted ways with relief pitcher Jon Rauch.
Insight: Rauch was designated for assignment a few days ago so this really comes as no surprise. The 11-year veteran went 1-2 with a 7.56 ERA in 15 relief appearances before Miami finally let him go.

Description: Jon Rauch was taken to a hospital in New York to have an examination on his elbow. The tall righthander has been experiencing "tenderness" in his arm recently.
Insight: Rauch (3-5, 4.76 ERA) has been New York's setup man for much of the year so his fantasy value isn't incredibly high. Despite the "tenderness" Rauch has been experiencing, he was able to pitch Monday afternoon in the Mets' series finale against St. Louis, though he did allow the game winning two-run homer.

Description: The Toronto closer situation just continues to be a closer-by-committee, as Jon Rauch and Casey Janssen both got saves last week.
Insight: They appear to be easing Frank Francisco back into the role, but when he takes it over full time is anybody's guess. Francisco has already blown three saves, but has allowed just one earned run in his last five outings (non-pressure situations).
6/9/2011 11:07:00 AM
Description: Jon Rauch has a small lateral muscle injury which kept him out of last night's game and it is unclear if he will land on the disabled list.
SOURCE: Blue Jays' official site
Insight: Even when healthy, Rauch is not the best option to have, so being injured makes him even less appealing.
6/8/2011 9:38:00 AM
Description: Jon Rauch picked up his 7th save on Tuesday night in a perfect 9th against KC
Insight: Rauch has a 3.65 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP and I doubt he gives the closer role back again.
5/3/2011 8:20:00 PM
Description: Blue Jays closer Jon Rauch allowed 2 hits without getting an out in the 9th inning, giving up 2 runs to lose the game against Tampa Bay.
Insight: Rauch has allowed runs in 2 of his last 3 outings, which is not good news with Frank Francisco getting ready to regain the closer's role; expect that move any day now.
4/30/2011 10:27:00 PM
Description: Frank Francisco pitched a scoreless eighth inning today for the Blue Jays in a non-save situation.
Insight: It's unclear exactly what the closer situation is for the Blue Jays. It's likely just an issue of Francisco working back into a groove working on consecutive days. In the meantime Rauch may get the occasional save or two.
3/19/2011 3:05:00 PM
Description: Rauch could be first in line for saves at the start of the season if Frank Francisco's pec soreness persists.
Insight: Francisco's injury doesn't appear to be serious, but a small opening is all one pitcher needs in the tight race that is the back of Toronto's bullpen. None of the options is a safe bet to go the whole year as the closer, but the first guy in obviously carries an edge. (RapidDraft.com)
3/17/2011 2:58:00 PM
Description: Jon Rauch threw a scoreless inning today and hasn't allowed a run in spring training.
Insight: On the flip side, Frank Francisco continues to be bothered by injury problems. Francisco was expected to be the team's closer but if he can't get into game action soon he might not be able to start the season in that role. Rauch did pretty well as a closer last year and could get some April saves.
Description: Rauch signed a one-year deal with the Blue Jays on Monday with an option for 2012.
Insight: Rauch saved 21 games with the Twins last season after Joe Nathan went down for the year. Otherwise he's just 26 of 44 for his career in save opportunities. He could very well get a chance to enhance those numbers with Octavio Dotel likely up first as closer. (RapidDraft.com)
1/17/2011 4:48:00 PM
Description: Jon Rauch has signed a contract with Toronto. He will receive $3.5 million for next season with a $3.75 option for 2012.
SOURCE: TORONTO BLUE JAYS ON TWITTER
Insight: The Jays wanted either Brian Fuentes or Rauch so it's not surprising that they moved quickly on this one. Octavio Dotel, Rauch and Jason Frasor are all closer candidates right now, making all of them weak options in mixed leagues until spring training sorts this situation out.

Description: MLB.com reports Rauch (left knee) will have his left knee looked at "in the coming weeks."
Insight: Rauch was bothered by the knee late in the season. He was 21-for-25 in save chances with a 3.12 ERA this season, and is slated to be a free agent. (RapidDraft.com)
10/1/2010 11:01:00 AM
Description: MLB.com reports Twins' manager Ron Gardenhire said Rauch (left knee) may not be available for the ALDS.
Insight: Rauch had fluid drained from his left knee on Thursday and also received a cortisone shot. He has a 3.12 ERA over 57.2 innings this season. (RapidDraft.com)
8/5/2010 4:52:00 PM
Description: Twins RP Jon Rauch has blisters on his hands and is unlikely to be available on Thursday as he's scheduled to visit another doctor. Rauch had an allergic reaction on his hands on Tuesday that caused a blistering rash and it sounds like he could be out awhile.
SOURCE: Yahoo Sports
Insight: With Rauch no longer the closer, this news is more concerning for real baseball than for fantasy baseball.

Description: The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports Rauch (hand) has blisters on his hands.
Insight: Rauch had an allergic reaction on Tuesday, which cause a rash and blistering on his hands. It is unknown when he might pitch again. (SportsBuff.com)
7/30/2010 9:25:00 AM
Description: The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports Twins' manager Ron Gardenhire confirmed that newly acquired Matt Capps will serve as the team's closer.
Insight: Rauch is 21-for-25 in save opportunities this season, but for now will move into a set-up role. His fantasy value takes a hit. (SportsBuff.com0

Description: Rauch picked up his 21st save of the season on Wednesday against Kansas City.
Insight: Rauch is now 21-for-25 in save opportunities along with a 3.05 ERA this season. (SportsBuff.com)
7/20/2010 10:49:00 AM
Description: MLB.com reports Rauch (right ankle) has been diagnosed with a bruised right ankle.
Insight: Rauch was hit in the ankle by a comebacker in the ninth inning of Monday night's game against Cleveland. He may miss a few days. Matt Guerrier is likely to serve as the Twins' closer in his absence. (SportsBuff.com)
7/20/2010 7:39:00 AM
Description: Jon Rauch entered last night's game with the Twins trailing 8-3 just to get some work in. He ended up allowing two runs on four hits in his inning of work.
Insight: He hasn't pitched well lately and there are rumblings that his stuff isn't good enough to close - similar to Chad Qualls. We wouldn't go that far just yet. If you need saves you have to keep rolling him out there - if you are in a shallow mixed league you could use someone else for now.
7/17/2010 8:20:00 AM
Description: Twins closer Jon Rauch lasted just 1/3 of an inning against the White Sox, giving up 2 runs on 2 hits and 3 walks.
Insight: Jesse Crain came in to get the save, his first of the season. It is interesting that Rauch struggled shortly after Joe Nathan said he wanted to stay in Minnesota past next season.
