Description: Reds setup man Jonathan Broxton (elbow) is expected to be activated from the 15-day disabled list for Wednesday afternoon's game against Oakland.
Insight: Broxton (2-2, 4.33 ERA, 1.296 WHIP) had a strained flexor in his right elbow. He was expected to return in late June or early July, but ran a month behind schedule. His fantasy value is minimal.

Description: Reds setup man Jonathan Broxton (elbow) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Insight: Broxton has a strained flexor in his right elbow. The right-hander lost most of his fantasy value when the Reds decided during spring training to keep Aroldis Chapman in the closer role.

Insight: Broxton won't be able to pitch again until the swelling goes down. He hasn't been anything special this season anyway, compiling a mediocre 4.33 ERA in 29 relief appearances.

Description: Cincinnati reliever Jonathan Broxton, who had to come out of Monday night's game against the Cubs after taking a line drive off his right hand, is questionable for Wednesday's game against the Chicago Cubs.
Insight: Broxton is a setup man who won't be a fantasy option this season unless something happens to Aroldis Chapman.

Description: Cincinnati reliever Jonathan Broxton had to come out of Monday night's game against the Cubs after taking a line drive off his right hand.
Insight: We should know more about Broxton's condition after he goes for X-rays. Broxton won't be a fantasy option this season unless something happens to Aroldis Chapman.
3/21/2013 11:26:00 AM
Description: Aroldis Chapman's return to the bullpen will push Reds reliever Jonathan Broxton back into a setup role.
Insight: Broxton has to be fuming right now. He signed a three-year deal with Cincinnati this past offseason after it appeared that Chapman would be moving to the starting rotation. That decision backfired and now Chapman is back to being the Reds' closer. Fantasy owners who drafted Broxton under the impression that he'd be the closer have to be just as angry as Broxton. Now Broxton (4-5, 2.48 ERA, 27 saves last season) only holds fantasy value in rotisserie leagues that count holds.

Description: Jonathan Broxton and the Reds have agreed to a three-year, $21 million contract.
Insight: After getting exiled from Los Angeles Broxton enjoyed a bounceback season in 2012, converting 27-of-33 save chances for a career-low 2.48 ERA. He returns to the Reds, who acquired him midseason in a trade with Kansas City. The plan here is for Broxton to take over the reigns as closer with fire-balling lefty Aroldis Chapman heading to the starting rotation.
11/26/2012 9:33:00 PM
Description: Ken Rosenthal from Fox Sports says that the Reds have been in discussions with reliever Jonathan Broxton about a new three-year deal.
Insight: Cincinnati's interest in Broxton is intriguing because it likely signals the end of Aroldis Chapman's reign as closer. Broxton is coming off one of his best seasons and should have a chance to be a top-10 closer in 2013, assuming Chapman moves into the starting rotation.
8/17/2012 10:25:00 AM
Description: Reds reliever Jonathan Broxton is questionable for Friday's game against Chicago with a sore right shoulder.
Insight: Broxton saved 23 games with a 2.27 ERA in Kansas City, but his new role in Cincinnati as a set up man for Aroldis Chapman, significantly reduces his fantasy value.
7/31/2012 5:21:00 PM
Description: The Royals traded Jonathan Broxton to the Reds Tuesday afternoon prior to the MLB trade deadline.
Insight: Broxton has been a revelation this season, saving 23 games with a 2.27 ERA. However, he'll set up Aroldis Chapman with Cincinnati, which removes almost all of his fantasy value.
6/18/2012 7:14:00 PM
Description: Royals closer Jonathan Broxton won't be available to pitch in Monday night's game against Houston.
Insight: Broxton (1-1, 1.69 ERA) tossed two innings Sunday in Kansas City's extra innings win over the Cardinals so he'll get the night off. Expect Aaron Crow (0-1, 2.76 ERA) to get the call if there's an opportunity for a save Monday night.
4/11/2012 7:52:00 PM
Description: Jonathan Broxton blew a save without allowing at hit in the 12th inning on Wednesday at Oakland.
Insight: Broxton entered with a 4-3 lead, but Seth Smith reached on an error, Jemile Weeks and Eric Sogard walked and Coco Crisp had an RBI groundout to tie the score. Broxton then hit Yoenis Cespedes and Jonny Gomes to force in the game-winning run. Broxton's fastball sat at 94 mph and touched 96, but if he can't throw the ball anywhere near the plate he won't be the closer for long. Greg Holland and Aaron Crow wait in the wings.
3/29/2012 12:21:00 PM
Description: Jonathan Broxton is the frontrunner for the Royals closer job, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
Insight: Every guy with a closing job is worth owning, especially one that has 503 strikeouts in 392 2/3 career innings. If Broxton is still out there, make the add.
3/20/2012 1:45:00 PM
Description: Jonathan Broxton could end up being the Kansas City Royals closer in 2012 if the ulnar collateral ligament to Joakim Soria requires Tommy John surgery.
Insight: Broxton would have to beat out Greg Holland for the closer's role, but based on his experience in Los Angeles would likely get the first shot at the job. Broxton might be worth a late-round pick.
6/29/2011 10:18:00 AM
Description: The Los Angeles Dodgers have again shut down CL Jonathan Broxton because of a bone bruise in his right elbow.
Insight: Broxton appeared in two games for Triple-A Albuquerque last week but was shut down this weekend after complaining of soreness. He underwent another MRI which showed that the bruise still hasn't fully healed, so manager Don Mattingly said Broxton needed to take three weeks off before returning to his rehab program.
5/7/2011 7:07:00 AM
Description: Dodgers RP Jonathan Broxton was placed on the DL because of his elbow issues and he will miss at least one month.
Insight: Vicente Padilla will get the first shot to be the team's primary closer.
5/6/2011 8:30:00 AM
Description: The MRI on Jonathan Broxton's elbow came back without any structural damage, but did find some bruising and a bone spur. The Dodgers will wait a few days to see how he feels before determining whether or not he needs to be place on the DL.
SOURCE: LA Times
Insight: Good news that it's not a tear, but there is obviously something wrong. If you need saves, it's time to pick up Vincente Padilla while Broxton is out.
5/4/2011 2:03:00 PM
Description: Dodgers closer Jonathan Broxton has been shut down pending the results of an MRI on his ailing elbow.
Insight: Don Mattingly has already stated he'll look to a variety of pitchers and go the committee route at this time. "I'm going to deal with what we have," Mattingly said. "We have [Matt] Guerrier, [Blake] Hawksworth, [Mike] MacDougal. If Kenley [Jansen] comes back, we have him."
5/3/2011 5:27:00 AM
Description: Dodgers RP Jonathan Broxton pitched a perfect 9th inning, with 1 K, to pick up his 7th save on the year.
Insight: While he might not be the best closer option available Broxton has 30+ save potential. Of course, he also has the potential to implode like last season. If you own him you have to watch this situation closely, since the Dodgers have too many options to pick just one to handcuff to Broxton.
