Insight: Obviously, it's going to take more than that to pry Phillips away from the Reds. Uggla (.179, 22 HR, 55 RBI) is coming off a terrible season and wasn't even included on Atlanta's postseason roster. The Braves will probably have to throw in a prospect or two to sweeten the deal.

Insight: The Reds are trying to trade their All-Star second baseman but it's not going to be easy. Phillips (.261, 18 HR, 103 RBI) signed a six-year extension with the Reds last season and is still owed $50 million over the next four seasons. For the Reds to get a deal done, there's a good chance they'll have to eat a chunk of his salary.

Description: Cincinnati second baseman Brandon Phillips is a career .375 hitter with a pair of homers and a 1.188 OPS versus Mets left-hander Jonathon Niese.
Insight: The Reds clinched a playoff spot Monday night, but are still in the running for a division title so shouldn't rest anyone.
9/7/2013 11:36:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati second baseman Brandon Phillips is not in Saturday's starting lineup.
Insight: He left Thursday's game with a quad injury, but it wasn't that serious and he was in Friday's lineup. It's more likely simply a rest day because of an unfavorable matchup. He's a career .188 hitter against Zack Greinke.

Description: Cincinnati second baseman Brandon Phillips left Thursday's game with a quad injury, but it wasn't that serious and he's back in the lineup for Friday's lineup.
Insight: It was only a bruise. Phillips, the only second baseman in the majors with 100 RBI, should be fine going forward.

8/25/2013 11:03:00 AM
Description: Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips is 6-for-15 (.400) with one homer in his career against Marco Estrada, who will throw Sunday for the Brewers.
Insight: Phillips has hit .378 (14-for-37) over his last nit games, but with just two extra-base hits in that span. He's slugging just .412 and has a .727 OPS this season, but those flaws have been covered up by his 95 RBI. Make sure he's in your lineup Sunday against Estrada.
8/15/2013 10:40:00 AM
Description: Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips is 7-for-28 (.250) with one extra-base hit and a .552 OPS against Brewers starter Kyle Lohse.
Insight: Phillips has a subpar .260 average and a .718 OPS this season, but he has driven in 90 runs as the team's regular cleanup hitter behind on-base machines Shin-Soo Choo and Joey Votto. We wouldn't trust him to produce against Lohse on Thursday, however.
8/13/2013 11:03:00 AM
Description: Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips is just 3-for-23 (.130) against Cubs right-hander Jeff Samardzija.
Insight: Phillips' batting average is down this season (.260), but he's been asked to drive in runs and that's exactly what he's done with 89 in 109 games. Just not against Samardzija in an unfavorable matchup.

Insight: Phillips' batting average is down this season (.261), but he's been asked to drive in runs and that's exactly what he's done with 84 in 104 games. He should easily break his career mark of 98 (2009) before this season is over. But probably not against Colon.
7/29/2013 6:09:00 PM
Description: Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips is not in the starting lineup Monday.

7/28/2013 1:19:00 PM
Description: Chris Capuano might want to call in sick today. He's been a nightmare against Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips.
Insight: Phillips is batting .438 against the lefthander in 32 previous at bats. It's been an up and down season for Phillips (.261, 12 HR, 81 RBI) but Sunday should be one of the ups.
7/26/2013 10:47:00 AM
Description: Los Angeles starter Clayton Kershaw is one of the most dominant starters in baseball, but Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips hasn't had an issue against the lefty.
Insight: Phillips owns a .438 average (7-for-16) against Kershaw. While his .263 average, .721 OPS and two steals are disappointing, hitting in the cleanup spot behind OBP monsters Shin-Soo Choo and Joey Votto has helped him drive in 81 runs, fourth most in baseball.
7/11/2013 12:26:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati second baseman Brandon Phillips has been an absolute disaster against Braves starter Tim Hudson.
Insight: Phillips, the starting second baseman for the National League in next week's All-Star Game, has managed just three hits in 21 trips to the plate against Hudson (.143 AVG). He's on pace for 119 RBI this season, 21 more than the career-high he set back in 2009.

Description: Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips is back from paternity leave and in Friday night's starting lineup.
Insight: He's been in a slump recently, batting .145 over his last 55 at-bats, but overall he's been a solid RBI man and must be re-installed back into all fantasy lineups.
6/25/2013 4:35:00 PM

6/23/2013 9:51:00 PM
Description: Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips ended a 12-game home run drought with a two-run shot Sunday against the Diamondbacks.
Insight: Phillips hit .137 (7-for-51) with 11 strikeouts in his previous 12 games. He only went 1-for-4 Sunday and hasn't had a multi-hit game since June 10, but at least his one hit Sunday left the park.
6/13/2013 11:11:00 AM
Description: Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips has been a major success as Cincinnati's cleanup hitter this season, but he has gone 2-for-19 (.105) with five K against Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija.
Insight: Samardzija has held Joey Votto, Jay Bruce and Phillips to a combined eight hits in 50 at-bats (.160). Phillips is hitting .293 with 10 homers and 53 RBI, but Thursday could be a tough day for him.
