Description: Reds starter Mat Latos left Monday's start with tightness in his right hip, but pitching coach Bryan Price said the team is not "thinking twice about him missing a start or being limited in any way." SOURCE: MLB.com
Insight: Latos will have an extra day of rest before his next start Sunday due to a scheduled off day on Thursday."It'll be a good indicator on where he's at," Price said "He's had a little bit of hamstring and calf tightness that he's worked through. If this is an issue, we'll handle it as needed."

Description: Reds starter Mat Latos fired seven scoreless innings, allowed four hits, walked one and struck out four Wednesday against the Cubs to pick up his first win of the season.

Description: Despite a 2.73 ERA, Cincinnati starter Mat Latos still hasn't won a game this season.
Insight: Friday, the issue was run support. Latos was brilliant in his seven innings of work (7 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 10 K's, 1 BB) but the Reds managed just one run all night as the Marlins won 2-1. Latos will hope for better luck in his next start Wednesday against Chicago.

10/11/2012 6:51:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati starter Mat Latos was a savior in Game 1 after Johnny Cueto was injured but he couldn't help the Reds stave off elimination Thursday in Game 5 of the NLDS. Latos allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings as San Francisco won 6-4 to move on to the NLCS.
Insight: Latos threw four strong innings in relief in Game 1 but he was battered Thursday. The big blow came in the form of a grand slam from Buster Posey in the fifth inning.

10/7/2012 10:05:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati starter Mat Latos had to enter Game 1 of the ALDS unexpectedly but he proved capable of shutting down San Francisco in a four-inning bullpen stint.
Insight: Game 1 starter Johnny Cueto only faced one batter before succumbing to back spasms. Latos went to the bullpen to go through his normal starting routine while Sam LeCure took over for Cueto and followed LeCure with four strong innings, allowing just a solo homer to Buster Posey. Unfortunately, pitching Saturday will prevent Latos from starting Game 3.

9/22/2012 9:40:00 PM

Hot9/4/2012 10:42:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati right-hander Mat Latos went 1-2 with a 5.97 ERA in his first month with the Reds, but since then he's 11-2 with a 3.24 ERA.
Insight: Latos' predictably has allowed more homers in moving from Petco Park to the Great American Ballpark. However, the right-hander has managed to pitch around that damage and turn in a solid season.

Hot8/3/2012 10:28:00 PM

Description: Reds starter Mat Latos (ankle) expects to make his next start, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Insight: Latos (8-3, 4.30) suffered an ankle sprain Monday, but he said he's fine and will be able to throw his next bullpen session before making his next scheduled start. The right-hander has had an up-and-down season, allowing four earned runs or more in seven starts and two or less in 11. As expected, his home run rate has skyrocketed from 0.74 to 1.43 per nine innings after moving from Petco Park to the Great American Ballpark.

Hot6/30/2012 9:03:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Mat Latos threw his second complete game in a row Saturday in Cincinnati's 2-1 win over the Giants. This one was a two-hitter for Latos, who struck out seven and walked none over the course of 115 pitches.
Insight: Since getting rocked by the Indians on June 18, Latos (7-2, 4.42 ERA) has been virtually unhittable. He's 2-0 with 20 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.00 over his last two starts.

6/25/2012 10:34:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Mat Latos recorded a season-high 13 strikeouts Monday in a complete game win over the Brewers.
Insight: Latos allowed just four hits and one run over his nine innings of work. You never know what you're going to get with Latos, who gave up seven runs in his last start June 18 against the Indians, but on Monday he was spectacular. His next start is Saturday against the Brewers.

6/13/2012 10:11:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Mat Latos fired seven innings of two-run ball Wednesday against Cleveland. Latos allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out seven to improve to 5-2.
Insight: Latos has been shaky this season despite his stellar record. The right-hander has a 4.64 ERA in 12 starts, though he's been better at home, going 4-1 with a 3.91 ERA. He's gotten his walks down over his last five starts, issuing just five free passes in that span, but it hasn't improved his performance, as he's gone 3-0 with a 4.65 ERA over those five starts.

5/6/2012 4:55:00 PM
Description: Mat Latos bounced back from a rough outing to shutout the Pirates over six innings on Sunday. Latos gave up just two hits while striking out 11.
Insight: Latos has shut out opponents in two of the last three starts, but he gave up five runs on 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings the last time out, so his ERA still stands at 4.93 through his first six starts with Cincinnati.

4/24/2012 9:31:00 PM
Description: Mat Latos finally pitched like the pitcher the Reds thought they were getting when they traded for him in the offseason, going seven shutout innings against Matt Cain and the Giants on Tuesday. Latos gave up four hits and two walks while striking out three.
Insight: Latos gave up 14 earned runs in his first three starts with Cincinnati. Expect more performances like Tuesday's as Latos gets comfortable with the Reds.

3/30/2012 2:14:00 PM
Description: Mat Latos is day-to-day with a strained left calf, but is scheduled to throw in the bullpen on Friday and pitch on Sunday.
Insight: The Reds and many fantay owners are counting on Latos to be their ace, but you shouldn't count on the right-hander to repeat his 2011 performance. There is going to be a shock to his system when he starts pitching in the Great American Ball Park where average fly balls jump out of the stadium with regularity.

3/28/2012 11:17:00 AM
Description: Mat Latos is day-to-day with a strained left calf. He left Tuesday's start after 4 2/3 innings.
Insight: The Reds are counting on Latos to be their ace after trading for him in the offseason, but you shouldn't count on the 6-foot-6 right-hander to be your fantasy ace. It's just too risky to expect 220 innings out of him. There is also the home park factor to consider, as he has moved from spacious PetCo Park to the Great American bandbox.

5/26/2011 9:38:00 AM
Description: Mat Latos pitched eight strong innings on Wednesday to defeat the Cards and Latos struck out seven while only allowing six hits and didn't walk a batter.
Insight: Latos is only 2-6 but has a 4.06 ERA and that 7 K/0 BB walk performance should have owners optimistic going forward. Latos may be a good buy low because of his record.

5/4/2011 10:40:00 AM
Description: Mat Latos threw six innings against the Pirates on Tuesday and only allowed two earned runs and struck out five. He also added a home run at the plate for the Pad's in their win.
Insight: Latos' is starting to look a bit better and his ERA is down to 4.55 on the season.

4/27/2011 6:00:00 PM
Description: Padres SP Mat Latos allowed 6 runs in just 5 innings, though only 1 run was earned. Latos gave up 7 hits and a walk. while striking out 5.
Insight: Latos appeared to have worked out of a jam in the second but an error kept the inning alive. Fantasy owners are still waiting for Latos to have that dominant stretch like he did in 2010 but he appears out of sync since returning from his shoulder issues. Since the Padres have nothing to play for this season it would not be surprising to see Latos shut down for some rest.

4/22/2011 12:31:00 PM
Description: Padres SP Mat Latos gave up two home runs and a career-high-tying five walks in 4'?1/3 innings as the Phillies handed the Padres a 3-0 loss Thursday night before 27,056 at Petco Park. Dating back to last season, Latos has now lost eight straight starts. SOURCE: San Diego Union-Tribune
Insight: Opponents are still hitting just .194 off fo Latos, so the talent is still there. Latos could be struggling because of the time off he took recuperating from shoulder inflammation. Assuming there is not another injury situation going on, Latos is a good buy low candidate.
