San Diego Padres (29-50) at Colorado Rockies (30-47), 3:10 p.m.

Probable Starting Pitchers: San Diego - Kip Wells (0-1, 3.60) Colorado - Drew Pomeranz (0-2, 4.70)

(Sports Network) - Kip Wells' return to the majors ended in a loss on Tuesday against Houston. Today, the veteran right-hander will try to beat the Rockies for the first time in his career when the Padres conclude their three-game set at Coors Field.

Wells, who hadn't pitched in the majors since 2009, gave up seven hits and five runs -- two earned -- over five innings against the Astros. He is 0-3 with a 6.68 ERA in six starts against Colorado, a team he pitched for during the 2008 season.

Drew Pomeranz is getting another chance in Colorado's pitching rotation.

The 23-year-old left-hander, who compiled a 4-4 mark with a 2.91 ERA in nine starts at Triple-A Colorado Springs, went 0-2 with a 4.70 ERA in five starts earlier this season for the Rockies.

His last start before the demotion was against the Padres on May 7, when he gave up five hits and three runs over three innings.

On Saturday, Yasmani Grandal made quite an impression in his first career start. The 23-year-old switch-hitting catcher homered from both sides of the plate, lifting the Padres to an 8-4 win.

With his pair of long balls, Grandal became the first player in MLB history whose first two career hits were homers from different sides of the plate in the same game.

Alexi Amarista also hit two round-trippers in the win.

Edinson Volquez (5-7) fanned eight and surrendered two runs -- one earned -- on three hits and six walks in six innings for the Padres, who have won two of their last three games.

Wilin Rosario hit a solo homer for Colorado, which took the first game of the series by a 10-2 count.

These teams have split eight meetings this season.
