Final Score: Nicholls State 80, Houston Baptist 70
Lafayette, LA (Sports Network) - Trevon Lewis scored a game-high 21 points off the bench as the Nicholls State Colonels captured an 80-70 win over the Houston Baptist Huskies as part of the Beryl Shipley Classic at the Cajundome.
Lewis connected on 8-of-9 shots from the floor and grabbed six rebounds in 22 minutes of action for the Colonels (1-3) as they picked up their first win of the season. Also scoring in double figures for Nicholls State were Chris Talkington and Dantrell Thomas with 17 points apiece.
The Huskies (1-3) were paced by Marcus Davis who accounted for 17 points and five rebounds in a reserve role, while Ronald March tacked on 14 points and five boards of his own.
Despite shooting 50 percent from the field and 6-of-14 behind the three-point line in the first half, Nicholls State actually trailed at the break by three points, 38-35.
In the second half the Huskies dropped all the way down to only 35.5 percent accuracy from the floor and 3-of-12 out on the perimeter, making it that much easier for the Colonels to grab the double-digit win.
Houston Baptist turned the ball over 19 times and shot just 10-of-17 at the free-throw line in the setback.
