GAMES NOTES: Looking to extend a winning streak and keep pace at the top of the Ohio Valley Conference, the Eastern Kentucky Colonels will host the Austin Peay Governors in league action at Alumni Coliseum on Wednesday night.

Austin Peay is also gunning to keep a winning streak going after posting back- to-back victories for the first time this season on Saturday. The second win of the streak came on the road against SIU Edwardsville for the Governors who have otherwise had a tough time this season at 7-20 overall and just 3-10 in league action. The win against the Cougars was also the second in 12 tries away from home for the Governors who will be on the road again in a non- conference bout with Liberty this Saturday.

The Colonels are riding high into their final home game of the regular season with wins in five straight contests after an 80-67 defeat of Jacksonville State. Eastern Kentucky actually has the best overall record among OVC teams (21-6) but is still a game behind Belmont for the top spot in the league standings with a record of 10-3 in OVC bouts. Alumni Coliseum has been very kind to the Colonels this season as they are 14-1 on their home floor. However in the final three games of the season, including a non-conference tilt with Valparaiso on Saturday, the Colonels are on the road.

This is the first and only scheduled meeting of the season between these foes. Austin Peay has won four of the last five matchups and owns a 60-48 all-time series lead.

Led by 21 points from Anthony Campbell, Austin Peay shot 56.6 percent from the floor and banged home eight triples to earn the win over SIU Edwardsville. Chris Horton dominated on the interior in the contest with 13 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocked shots.

Normally the Governors have not been able to collect enough stops on the defensive end of the floor. On the season the Governors are allowing teams to put up 75.4 points per game on 45.1 percent shooting. That has outweighed the otherwise solid numbers they have managed on offense (71.1 ppg, .459 FG percentage). Travis Betran (17.4 ppg) usually tops the score sheet while ranking among the top four scorers in the conference as well. Campbell (14.7 ppg) clearly has an ability to carry the team offensively while Will Triggs (12.0 ppg) is one of only two other players putting in more than 5.5 points per game. Horton (8.2 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 3.0 bpg) is a solid contributor in the frontcourt and the league leader in blocks.

All five starters scored in double figures and Taurus Johnson posted a double- double in Eastern Kentucky's win over Jacksonville State. The Colonels shot 53.4 percent from the floor in the contest and knocked down nine shots from 3- point range.

Eastern Kentucky has been one of the more potent offensive teams in the OVC this season. The Colonels rank second in the OVC in points (73.6 pg), assists (15.2 pg) and field-goal percentage (.477). Eastern Kentucky doesn't get much work on the glass though as it ranks at the very bottom of the OVC in rebounds (27.6 ppg), while fitting in among the bottom five teams nationally. Lead scorer Glenn Cosey (15.6 ppg) had a game-high 21 points against Jacksonville State and has had at least 17 points in five of the last six games. Mike DiNunno (15.5 ppg, 5.2 apg) and Corey Walden (12.1 ppg) give the Colonels a talented scoring trio in the backcourt but the teams lacks frontcourt depth.

Though Austin Peay may have an advantage on the boards, rebounds don't equate to points. Led by their high-tempo backcourt the Colonels have the type of offense that will give the Govs problems.
